An Awesome Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Nephew, and Friend

Brent was born on July 13, 1965 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Willie and Bertha Hammonds.

Brent accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age.

He attended Rogers High School in Michigan City, Indiana and graduated in 1983. He went on to attend Job Corps in Ohio. He worked at the Sanitization Department in Minnesota, Minneapolis. He also worked construction and had various other roles prior to becoming ill. During his younger years, Brent was an avid skater, dirt bike rider and dog lover. In his later years, he enjoyed cooking and attending his nieces and nephews sporting events. Brent loved sneakers, clothes, shooting pool and shopping. He also loved spending time with his family and close friends.

Although Brent was laid back, he was resourceful, loyal to his friends and family and never met a stranger. He was a straight shooter and was not afraid to speak his mind. Brent was protective of his family. He loved playing pranks. His loyalty never wavered and if you knew him, you had a friend for life.

Willie Brent Hammonds, 57, departed this life on August 27, 2022 at the home of his niece and nephew Neasha (Marco) Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents: Willie and Bertha Hammonds, his sister and brother: Renee Adams, Bob Henderson, His aunts: Betty Bell, Diane Martin, MaryAnn Bohannah, Mildred James, His grandparents: Georgia Ann (William) Hammonds, Margie Butler, Samuel Martin, Moses Brown, His nephew: Jarvis Willie Baker, Dear cousin/sister: Cynthia Berry and cousin/brother: Arrid Hall.

He leaves many to cherish his memories, his Godmother: Esther “Momma Cuz” Davis, and his God-father: Neal Davis, His sisters: Angela Hammonds and Sharron Hammonds, a step-mother: Anita “Tiny” Freeman, 7 aunts: Barbara Ann Williams, Jennice Mitchell, Harriet Martin, Margaret Martin, Dorothy (Ronald) Daugherty, Paulette (Bill) Brown-McCall, Viola Collins-Brown, 3uncles: Carlon Martin, Samuel Martin, Moses Brown, Jr.,  10 nieces and nephews: Toi (Greg) Adams, Felice (Michael) Hollingsworth, Kyran Anderson, Dayon Taylor, Michelle (Justin) Tanner, Neasha (Marco) Austin, Jevon (KiKi) Tanner, Katrina (Kenny) Strong, Jamal Baker, Shar-Vana Fredrick, Dear cousins/sisters: Lynn(Bell) Martin and Gail Brooks, along with a host of great nieces and nephew, His close friends, Brian Simmons, Mark Brooks and Kenneth Henderson.

A Celebration of life will be Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 12 noon at New Hope 730 W. 6th St. Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation will be 11am until time of service at the Church with Pastor Jacarra Williams to do Eulogy.  Burial will be Monday, September 12, 2022 at Swan Lake Memeorial Gardens at 10am.
