Vildred "Vera" Lee Foster

Sister Vildred (Vera) Foster was born on November 23, 1940 in Trail Lake, Mississippi to Beatrice Gaston and William Snyder.

Sister Foster moved to Indiana in 1946, where she would eventually call Michigan City her home. After becoming a resident of Michigan City, she became an active member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. G.R. Beckwith. It was here at New Hope that she found her calling. She served faithfully in the Nurses Guild until her health would no longer allow her to serve. 

On November 23, 1978, Sister Vera was united in marriage to Johnie Foster and from this union two children were born.  She worked as a caregiver in various settings for many years.  She truly had a heart for taking care of those in need. 

Sister Foster was a faithful, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her church as well as her Pastor Jacarra M. Williams.  

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 5:58 a.m., Sister Foster departed this earthly life at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (2) sisters; (2) brothers; (2) nieces; (4) nephews and (1) grand-son.

She leaves to cherish her memories; (4) daughters: Simmone Jefferson and Christine Foster of Goodyear, AZ; Remona Bell and Kim Goolsby of Michigan City, IN;  (3) Special Daughters: Lisa (Billy) Adams of Hobart, IN; Ameenah Starks of Granger, IN; and Tracy Tillman of Michigan City, IN; (1) son: Mark (Kim) Foster of Phoenix, AZ;  (3) Special Sons: Jody Starks of Granger, IN; Oscar Collier of Michigan City, IN; and Abraham Dudley of Laporte, IN; (2) sisters: Claudia Mae Lockridge-Taylor of Michigan City, IN; and Betty Jo Johnson of Kokomo, IN; (2) Special Sisters: Marilyn (Tyrone) Perteet and Robin Butler both of Michigan City, IN; (1) brother: Arther James Welton of Gary, IN; (1) Special brother: Richard (Samara) McNeil of Michigan City, IN; (15) grand-children; (8) great-grandchildren; along with a  host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, and let’s not forget her fur baby Bear.

Sister Foster’s love, laughter, presence, and smile will be sorely missed by all that knew her.

A Celebration of Life will take place on August 22, 2024 at New Hope Baptist Church 730 W 6th St. Michigan City, Indiana 46360 with Pastor Jacarra M. Williams to be Eulogist. Viewing will be 10am until time of service. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following service.
