Vannessa Duke Obituary

Deaconess Vannessa Duke 56, of Michigan City, Indiana passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019 in Merrillville, Indiana.  


Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Advancing Christ's Kingdom Ministries with Pastor Dierre Glenn to officiate. Viewing will be Friday, May 10, 2019 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Coleman & Hicks Chapel.

Vannessa was born Dec. 5, 1962 to O.B. Williams and Hazel Land-Williams in Michigan City, Indiana.

She confessed Christ at an early age. She attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in her early adulthood and later attended New Disciple Love Fellowship. She was ordained as Deaconess alongside her husband at Advancing Christ's Kingdom Ministries under the leadership of Pastors, Dierre and Patricia Glenn.

Vannessa attended Rogers High School, where she met her sweetheart and she graduated in 1981. On Aug. 18, 1990, she married the love of her life Michael Eugene Duke and to their union two children were born. Michael preceded her in death on May 29, 2018.

She was employed at many places within the childcare industry until her health began to fail her. She had a heart for children and she loved them like they were her own. She loved spending time with her family and she enjoyed helping others.

Vannessa leaves to cherish her loving memories, her wonderful children, daughter, Camille Le'Shae Duke and son, Michael Cedell Duke both of Michigan City; loving mother, Pastor Emeritus, Hazel Williams; five brothers, O.C. Williams, St. Louis, Missouri, Charles (Icue) Williams, Michigan City, Otis Williams and Marty (Rhea) Williams both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, George (Dondie) Williams, Nashville, Tennessee; four sisters, Cora Cambridge, Michigan City, Charmin (Eric) Simmons, Norcross, Georgia, Kimberly Williams, Michigan City and Yolanda Matthews, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; godchildren, Cameela Duke, Shondra Fields, Latisha Kendle, Natasha Kendle, Greylon Hervey, Princeton Hervey, Garrett Horne, Antonio Ingram, special friend, Sheila Hervey; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church family, other relatives and extended family.

Vannessa had a smile that would light up the room and the voice of an angel. She will be missed by those that knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by father, O. B. Williams and stepfather, Joe Williams.
