Steve Wallace Hurt was born July 19, 1941 to the union of Theola (Phillips) and John Baily Hurt in Charleston, MO. At an early age his family moved to Gary, and later moved to Michigan City, IN.
He married Callie (Wright) Cooper-Hurt in 1988, they would spend the rest of his days together.
Steve attended and graduated from Elston High School in 1960 on the Honor Society, he played several sports while attending high school such as basketball, football and track.
Steve was employed at Dwyer Instruments where he retired in November of 2019 with 56yrs of service. His hobbies were camping, fishing, watching and attending many high school basketball games, traveling and not to forget his love for electronics.
Steve departed this life on July 13, 2020 at IU Health, La Porte Hospital. Steve was proceeded in death by his parents John and Theola Hurt; two daughters, Racheon and Krystyna Hurt both of Michigan City; five brothers, Robert, Paul, Oscar, James and Johnny B Hurt all of Michigan City; five sisters, Lizzie Mae Lark, Johanna Patterson, Lucille Kent all of California, Sarah Ann Goodwin of Michigan City, Jessie Moore of Benton Harbor, MI.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Callie Hurt of Michigan City, IN; three sons, Steve Hurt Jr., of La Porte, IN; Brandon Hurt of Dallas, TX; Keith Hurt of Phoenix, AZ; and one stepson, Brian Cooper of Michigan City, IN; one stepdaughter Yvonne Cooper of Michigan City, IN; 24 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; three sisters, Delores (Curtis) Bones of Indianapolis, IN; Imogene Macon and Aretha (Eric) Brown both St. Paul, MN; Sister-in-law, Gloria Hurt; Brother-in-law, Nathaniel (Evelyn) Wright; and a host of nieces and nephews, he will be truly missed but forever in our hearts.
A Balloon Release will be 3 p.m., Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Lakeland’s Pavilion, 433 Dahlia St. to celebrate the life of Mr. Hurt. The family request that CDC guidelines be followed with social distancing and face masks are required.
