Rosie Morgan Obituary

Her Life & Legacy...

Rosie Mae Morgan was born in Greenwood, Mississippi to Mary King-Harris and Johnny Harris on July 3, 1946.  She married LeBert Morgan Sr. on September 9th, 1963, who preceded her in death.

She moved to Michigan City, IN in the early 1970s where she raised her 7 children. She was a quiet soul but a stern parent who knew that she could give children a certain look, and they would know the chores were not completed to her satisfaction. Saturday mornings consisted of her children doing laundry, mopping floors, organizing closets, and sometimes washing walls with a hand rag while she supervised and relaxed in her rocking chair, with a “nip” in her hand. Then God stepped in, and the “nip” was replaced with the Bible. It seems the Bible caused the sternness to fade because she developed a calm, loving and gentle spirit when she was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When any one of the “grands” entered the room, her face lit up with a huge smile. When they called her, you could hear a smile in her voice.

In the early 1990s, she became a member of Life in the Word Church, where her eldest son Robert became a Minister. Later, she joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until she relocated to the Dallas, Texas area where two of her daughters live. Within months of arriving in Texas, she joined Mount Tabor Church of Dallas. No matter what church she attended, after service was over, it was understood that the first stop was Mc Donald’s for her standard order of 2 double cheeseburgers, a fish sandwich and a large Diet Coke with no ice. Later, a stop at KFC was added to the route home for a 3-piece meal, original flavor - all drumsticks, a side of mashed potatoes/gravy and an order of “cheese and macaroni” with yet another large Diet Coke with no ice. No! she did not care what plans the driver had after church; “You ought to make time for your Momma!”

Rosie departed this life unexpectedly on Monday, April 27, 2026. She was the baby of the bunch and was also preceded in death by both her Parents; all of her Siblings: Andrew White, Johnny White, Napolian White; Charles White, Lee Harris, Johnny Harris, Louise Harris, Sylvia Harris-Thomas and Daisy Harris, Johnnie Mae Harris, her Daughter: Mary Ann Morgan, her Sons: Levert Morgan and Billy Morgan.

Rosie leaves to cherish her fond memories; her Son: Robert (Anita) Morgan of Fort Wayne, IN; her Daughters: Patricia (Zerrakon) Washington and Gloria Jackson of Dallas, TX; and Teresa Morgan of Cincinnati, OH; 10 grandchildren: Demetris Mitchell, Cordoral Morgan, Shalonda, Christina and Ricky Morgan, Markus Singleton, Ashley Farmer, Cortez Anderson, Lindsey Jackson and Cornell Logan, 18 great grandchildren: a host of nieces and nephews plus her long-term caretaker/friend, Jassmin Taylor.

She will be missed sorely by all that knew her.
