The Life and Legacy of…..
Rev. Steven Craig Wilson, affectionately known as "Cup," was born on July 22, 1956, in Beloit, WI to Robert Wilson, Jr. and Georgia Wilson whom both preceded him in death. Steven was a compassionate, loyal, humble, and funny man who devoted his life to his family, his faith, and serving his community. His life was a living example of a favorite quote, "True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less."
Steven was a dedicated laborer at SullAir Corporation, where he worked until his retirement in March 2019. Despite the demands of his job, Steven found the time to attend Theology School in Indianapolis, Indiana, further deepening his commitment to his faith. He was baptized at an early age, accepted Christ, and was ordained in Ministry under both the Baptist and Methodist organizations. He was a member of the New Community A.M.E. Church in LaPorte, IN until his health failed him.
After Steve graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in Beloit, WI, he enlisted and served a tour of duty in the United States Army. He was such a man of valor and loved serving his country that he also went on to enlist and serve a tour of duty in the United States Air Force.
As much as Steven loved his work, he loved his family even more. He married his best friend, Wilma, on August 30, 2008, at the Community A.M.E. Church. Together, they created a blended family that included six step-children and a host of grandchildren. He was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Steven was a passionate advocate for children and the youth, often taking his ministry into the community to reach out to them. He loved attending his grandchildren's school and sports activities, and he found joy in coaching youth basketball in his community.
On November 14, 2025 he gained his wings at Brickyard Health Care Center in Merrillville, Indiana with his family by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Wilma Wilson, his three siblings; Jean (Lamont) Weaver, Shiela Wilson both of Beloit, WI and Ava (Jay) Haynes, Las Vegas,NV; six step-children; Regina Gooden, Michigan City, IN, Reginald Gooden and Regis (TeKisha) Gooden of Atlanta, GA, Eric Garner, Michigan City, Erica Garner and Terrell Garner both of Indianapolis, IN; in-laws, Verlene Craig and Ruth Sanders both of Joliet, IL and Gloria Sanders, Indianapolis, IN, Willie Pulliam, Beloit, WI; special cousins Sue Morrow, Beloit, WI and Mike Davidson, GA; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; he cherished his relationship with his special mother, Dell White, and special friends; Pastor Delray Trotter, Rev. Steve Wooden, Dennis Hart, Ivory Neal, Brian Simmons, James Stewart and Burdett Emery and he would always greet the Woodard family as "FAM" whenever they would see each other.
Special thanks to Brickyard Health Care Nursing staff and the Caregivers Mikiela McDaniel and Rodeline Gaudron that came to his home and took really good and care of him.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wilson, Jr, and Georgia Wilson, his sister Mary Ruth Pullman, and brother Richard Wilson; in-laws, Walter Sanders, Jr, Lester Norvell,Sr., Helen Spicer and Kathy Sanders.
We will remember him as he was: a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who inspired us all with his unwavering faith, humility, and love for God.
Go on Steve, take your rest. We loved you but God loved you best.
