Rev. Ollie Carter

Reverend Ollie Jr. Carter made his transition from this life on June 25, 2019. In virtue of his Faith and belief, God’s luminous light shined through him in all aspects of his 75 years of life.

Memorial Celebration will be noon, Saturday, July 13, 2019 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church 14618 Lincoln Avenue, Harvey, IL 60426 with Pastor Jean White-Reid to officiate. Family hour will be 11am, Saturday, July 13, 2019 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church until the time of service.

Ollie Jr. Carter was born to Ollie Carter and Mattie Mae Ella (Scott) Carter on March 19, 1944 in Itta Bena, MS. one sister and two brothers, Marie, Walter and Jewel preceded him in death.

Ollie Jr. attended McLaurin Elementary School and Broadstreet High School where he excelled in education, sports and band. He accepted the Lord at an early age, after sitting on the Mourners’ Bench at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, in Greenwood, MS. Ollie Jr. always had a passion to be a community activist and leader. He worked with the Rainbow Push Coalition during the 70s and 80s. He was a leader and a major activist within the Nehemiah Coalition. With this work under his belt, he founded New Directions, Inc., a non-profit organization. New Directions focused on helping the inner-city youth of Chicago, more specifically, the young men of the Roseland community. After New Directions, Inc. was up and running successfully, he started Bi-Llenium Demolition and Excavation.

For twenty years, Ollie shared a life with Mary Hart and they had three children: Ollie III (preceded in death), Leander and Carol. Ollie and Larese Mitchell had three children as well: Brittney, Lauren and Chantel.

Ollie Jr. and Angela (Thorpe) Carter met in Chicago, IL in 1983. A country boy from Mississippi and a city girl from Chicago, excitement and introducing one another to new things is how their love story began. Stories of how they grew up, new restaurants, music and movies, especially westerns, were at the top of their date nights. They married May 30, 1989 and from this union, Candace, Shannon Simone and Joshua were born. Throughout their 30 years of marriage, they shared a life of love, understanding, commitment and service to each other and to the Lord.

As a lifelong man of Faith, Ollie Jr. lived his life as a God-fearing man. He attended Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Freddie Clark. He was ordained by Bishop Chandler Owens, Sr. as a Church of God in Christ minister in January of 1993. He served under Dr. Samuel A. Fluker at the House of Inspiration, COGIC, located in Chicago, IL., until becoming the Founder and Pastor of New Faith and Hope Outreach Ministries, in Dolton, IL.

Ollie Jr.’s assertive yet humble personality is what made him stick out amongst the crowd. His swag, story-telling capabilities, smile and smooth nature was unparallel and in a league of its own. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, six daughters, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
