Rashun Demonte Coats

Rashun Demonte Coats departed this life on July 5, 2020.

Funeral services will be noon on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at New Covenant Outreach Ministries with Pastor Dewayne Hurt to give the eulogy. Viewing will be at 11 a.m. at the church until the time of service. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. The family requests that CDC guidelines be followed with social distancing and face masks are required.

Rashun was born August 12th, 1991 to Albert and Betty Coats in Michigan City, IN.

Rashun came into this life with some challenges, and even more to follow as time went on. Rashun was given a life expectancy of 2-3 years and defied the odds against him and lived. Rashun was very familiar with hospitals and doctor visits. Rashun loved ice cream and candy such as “now and laters”, “Starburst”, “Mike and Ike’s” and he loved macaroni and cheese, dressing and greens, you could tell this by the way he smacked his lips. By age six he had to have a tracheostomy and a feeding tube, which prohibited him from consuming the things that once gave him so much joy. However none of these challenges changed his character, Rashun was always happy regardless of what he went thru. He had random outbursts of happiness all times of the day. He would yell and kick and wave his hands. He gave no regard to who was around if he was happy he was happy. He was humorous as well, some days, if he wasn’t feeling it, he would ignore you like it was nobody’s business. If you tried hard enough he might smile for you.

Rashun will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Mostly by his siblings, Anthony Gavin, Bobby Coats, Albert Coats, Louella Collins, Alma Westerfield, Lavern Brooks; Devoted and Dedicated stepfather, Jimmie Pearson; Devoted and Dedicated caregiver, Mary Agba; and former caregiver, Diddra Duncan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents.

Rashun’s kind gentle spirit will be greatly missed.
