Phyllis Jean Brown Corley was born on July 28, 1949 in Michigan City, Indiana to Willie Lee (Jones) Brown and Anthony Winski Brown.
Phyllis graduated from Elston High School in 1967. She started her career as an LPN (licensed practical Nurse) in the early 70’s which she enjoyed until an occupational hazard would end her career. She also served on the nurse's board at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ernest Jones. Phyllis was also a member of Christ Temple, her second home under the leadership of Bishop Bennett.
She enjoyed traveling with her doting husband who loved, worshipped and adored her. Phyllis enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, loved her flowers and shopping! Phyllis was an amazing wife and mother, she supported anyone that came to her in need. She was a very strong, demure and private woman. A beautiful woman with a beautiful family that loved and adored her.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Angelo L. Corley July 4, 1982. Together they started their blended family. They have been Married for 40 years.
Phyllis Jean Corley was promoted to Glory June 2, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, 2 sisters: Bernice (Brown) Johnson, Verdice (Brown) Edwards,1 Brother: Anthony Cleveland Brown.
She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memories her husband who adored her: Angelo L. Corley, mother in law: Dr. Bobbie J. Lindsey both of Michigan City, Indiana; 5 children: Erika Cox of Indianapolis, IN; Mitchell (Marilyn)Tatum, and Amber (Shana) Tatum all of Michigan City, IN; Marcus Lewis of Indianapolis, IN; Angelo (Rasheedah) Corley of Holland, Michigan; Honorary child/1st born granddaughter: Jalyssa Whetstone; of Indianapolis, Indiana; her sisters: Sharon (Brown) Perry of Kalamazoo, Michigan Gwendolyn (Brown) Fincher of Austin, Texas; Brothers: Anthony Brown; Clinton Cardell Brown, and Cecil (Evelyn) Brown all of Michigan City, Indiana; 20 grandchildren, 8 great- grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Phyllis’s presence, love and laughter will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
A Celebration of life will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 at 1pm at Christ Temple Apostolic Church 2308 E. Michigan Blvd., Michigan City, Indiana 46360 with Pastor James E. Lane Jr., to do Eulogy. Viewing will be from 12 noon until time of service at the Church. Burial to follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
