Pastor Howard Daniel 82, of Michigan City, Indiana went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2020.
Pastor Howard Kenneth Daniel, Sr. was born on September 12, 1938 in Sikeston, Missouri to Edgar N. and Hattie Mae Daniel.
Howard enlisted in the United States Army in August 1956 where he was deployed to serve active duty in Germany. He was honorably discharged in September 1958. He attended Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. Howard served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Lakeland for 29 years. Prior to becoming Pastor of First Baptist, Howard worked for the Michigan City Sanitation Department for a number of years. He eventually founded Above-All Limo and successfully served the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland area for many years.
Howard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, God-father, uncle and friend who loved Christ, his family and serving others. He served in many capacities in the community including, the Prison Ministry for six years at Indiana State Prison, 29 years as Chaplain of the Michigan City Police Department, Master Jail Chaplain, and Master Law Enforcement Chaplain with the Sheriff’s Chaplains Conference. He also served as a certified basic chaplain with the International Conference of Police Chaplains and co-organizer of the Biblical Training Institute. Howard was instrumental in the lives of countless youth through his service with the Michigan City Voyager Program, Inc. for several years.
Howard married the love of his life, his wife of 40 years, Linda Faye Daniel, December 13, 1980.
On December 12, 2020, the Lord called Rev. Daniel home, while surrounded by loved ones.
Howard leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Linda, of Michigan City, Indiana; nine children, Brandon A. (Lindsay) Daniel, Terrence McCollough, both of Michigan City, Indiana; Howard K. (Michelle) Daniel, Jr. of New Albany, Mississippi; Venita J. (Tony) Alexander of Sheridan, Colorado; Gloria L. Daniel of Illinois; Patty R. Daniel of Skokie, Illinois; Cornelia “Connie” Harrison of West Lafayette, Indiana; Ryan K. Daniel, Sr., and James E. Daniel of Atlanta, Georgia; his best Army friend L.T. Ivy of Racine, Wisconsin; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, godchildren, other relatives, friends, and church family.
A public visitation will be held on Friday December 18, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Lakeland at 4:00-7:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church with visitation at 10:00am and Service at 11:00am with Rev. Albert Isbell,Officiating.
