Oscar Collier Obituary

Oscar Lee Collier, affectionately known as "BUNK" was born November 8, 1936, to Lee Ed and Odessa Collier in Augusta, AR.

Oscar attended his schooling and graduated from Carver High School in Augusta, AR. He professed his faith in Christ at an early age. Before leaving Augusta, Oscar married Doris White where they then moved to Chicago, IL. To their union they had four children: Reginald Collier, Corllis Hendrix, Helen Collier and Oscar Collier Jr. Oscar also had two older children Wanda Houston and Garland "Ray" Collier.

Oscar relocated again from Chicago, IL to Michigan City, IN in 1969 to give his family a better life. Upon moving to Michigan City, IN Oscar found his family a church home which became Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Oscar served in many positions within the church under the Leadership of several Pastors. While under the Leadership of Emeritus Rev. Ernest Jones he took on the position of becoming the president of the Usher Board, and under his current Pastor before his passing Rev. James E. Lane Jr. he continued to serve faithfully for 40 plus years until he retired from that position. Oscar had several jobs as a truck driver until he came to work for Bulk Transport in Michigan City, IN where he retired from after working 30 plus years.

Oscar leaves to cherish his memories: His children Wanda (Kenneth) Houston of Florissant, MO., Reginald Collier, Corllis Hendrix and Helen Collier of Michigan City, IN., Oscar La Shaun Collier (Diane) of Hobart, IN, daughter-in-law Janice (Ray) Collier, Augusta, AR, his sister Rose Wright, Michigan City, IN and brother Herman Collier Sr., Michigan City, IN his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great­ grandchildren, God daughters Tiffany Griffin and Tiffany Weathers, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents Lee Ed and Odessa Collier, his former wife Doris Collier, his son Garland Ray Collier, brother Luther Ed Collier, sister Alena Collier and granddaughter Jessica Tyler.

Oscar also lost his two best friends Osborne "Cleveland" Howse and William "Sonny" Weathers prior to his passing.

A Celebration of life will take place on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 12 noon at  Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 717 E. 10th St. Michigan City, IN 46360. A viewing will be from 10:00am-12:00 noon until time of service at the Church. Pastor James E. Lane Jr. will give the Eulogy.

A private Burial with immediate family will take place.
