Orelia (Watson) Hales

Orelia W. Hales was born November 28, 1938 in Sorrento, Louisiana to the late Viola (Smith) Johnson and George Watson.

Orelia W. Hales was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved being the company of her family and friends. She loved to sing gospel songs and pray. Orelia attended Advancing Christ’s Kingdom Ministries where she served as a mother in the church under the leadership of Pastor’s Dierre and Patricia Glenn. She worked at Bethlehem Steel where she retired in 1999. 

She was married to Isiah Hales.

Orelia W. Hales departed this life on June 5th, 2020 at Franciscan Health in Michigan City, Indiana. She was preceded in death by husband; two sons, Lionel Hales and Joseph Hales; three brothers, Alfonse Lewis Johnson, Author Jackson and Alfred Irvin; three sisters, Alberta James, Lillian Wensey, Mary Stalberte, one grandson, Lionel Winding; one great grandson, Markell Avriyon Hales and special daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Nixon.

She leaves to cherish her daughter, Sheila Ann Hales of Michigan City, Indiana, one sister, Catherine Johnson of Los Angeles, California, one brother Alvin Lee Johnson; granddaughters, Tyshona Hales of Michigan City, Indiana, April Hales of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kayota Hales of Laurel, Mississippi, Sade Hales of Canton, Mississippi, Shiquita Hales and Iyana (John) Hales-McCullum both of Michigan City, Indiana; grandsons, Lavar Knox, Terrell Winding of Metairie, Louisiana, Zack Hales and Demetrius Hales both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Antonio H. Barnett of Michigan City, Indiana; one special sister, Patricia Elliott, two special sons: Roberick “Bay” Truvillion and Dennis Nixon; special daughter, Sharen Walker-Berry; special friends, Floretha Kelly, Rick Metrick; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Jackson and Veronica Irvin and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Advancing Christ’s Kingdom Ministries. Viewing will be 10:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Advancing Christ’s Kingdom Ministries with Pastor Dierre Glenn to give the eulogy. Burial will take place at a later date. The family requests that CDC guidelines be followed and face masks are required.
