Mother Millie Jarrett Obituary

HER LEGACY & STORY...

Mother Millie Jean Jarrett, 75, of Michigan City, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2026.

Early Wednesday morning, April 8th, God determined it was time to call our beloved mother, Millie Jean Jarett, to her eternal life.  Millie, affectionately called “Mother Millie” and “Grandma,” was born on October 15, 1950 (the day the world stood still), in Ripley, Tennessee, to the union of the late John H. Henry and Mary (Green) Jarrett.

Millie was educated in the Michigan City Area School system and graduated from Elston High School. Her career included working at the Indiana State Women’s Prison, Crane House, and REM Indiana. In 2016, she retired from Hearts and Hands Daycare.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Millie accepted Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age. In 2012 she becamea devoted member of High Praise Outreach Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Javaughn Blakely and Pastor Felicia Blakely, where she faithfully served on the mother’s board.

Mother Millie had a vibrant spirit and a love for life’s simple pleasures. She found joy in baking her famous banana pudding, sweet potato pies, and peach cobblers, as well as making homemade ice cream. She also loved sewing, playing solitaire, thrift shopping, watching movies, chatting on the phone, and collecting postcards and scarfs. She especially enjoyed traveling to Miami, Florida; she cherished spending time with her grandchildren; and, above all, she treasured every moment she shared with them.

She leaves to honor her memory one sister, Catherine (Leodis) Scott of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers, Leonard Jarrett and Matt Jarrett of Michigan City, Indiana; and her loving children, Derrell (Kisha) Jarrett of Brownsburg, Indiana Jarrell (Amy) Jarrett of Portage, Indiana, Emmitt (Kashleigh) Johnson of Tampa, Florida, Azania (Princeton) Farmer of LaPorte, Indiana, and Ameenah (Kurtess) Gillespie of Michigan City, Indiana.

She also leaves to cherish three special children: Felicia (Javaughn) Blakely of Westville, Indiana; Karemia(Armondo) Blakely of Brownsburg, Indiana; and Jarvis Brown of Pollock, Louisiana.

Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren include Ashley Jarrett, Derrell Jarrett, Demarius Jarrett, Kayla Jarrett, Kendall Jarrett, Jarrell Jarrett II., JanilyahJarrett, Breannah Johnson, Julius Johnson, Saharah Johnson, Kassidee Johnson, Janiyah Johnson, Za’NiaMann, Tommie Billups Jr., London Billups, Cairo Farmer, A’Nylah Jean Gibert, Kaleb Gillespie, Kendrick Gillespie, Korey Gillespie, Jazzmiere Carter, Amaiya Kiner, Amare Blakely, Jailah Blakely, Jalonte Blakely, Javontae Blakely, Janaya Blakely, and Jayana Blakely. She also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren.

She is also lovingly remembered by one special niece, Rhonda Seay of Michigan City, Indiana; one special nephew, Daniel “Butch” Jarrett of Michigan City, Indiana; and special friends, Nisy (Earl) Robinson, Marie Taylor, Linda Crawford, and Diane Clark, all of Michigan City, Indiana. She also held a special place in her heart for her fellow church mothers at High Praise Outreach Ministries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and John Jarrett; six sisters, Essie Hurt, Elain Love, Rosa Jarrett, Carol Jarrett, and Frances Jarrett; Emma Webb; and three brothers, Henry Jarrett, David Jarrett, and Darryl Jarrett. Special grandson Javaughn Blakely Jr.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her personal care team: Josiah Gooch, Jailah Blakely, Felicia Blakely, Nakisha Martin, and Brittany Mitchell. A heartfelt thank-you is also extended to her caregivers, Ameenah Gillespie, Azania Farmer, Kurt Gillespie, and Javaughn Blakely, for caring for her and standing by her side until the end. Your love and support made this transition easier, even throughthe rough days. It brought her great joy to be cared for by family.

Mother Millie’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and in every memory and every moment of praise we will forever hear her voice echoing Hallelujahhh.
