Life and Legacy of Mother Mattie Jean Turner....
Mother Mattie Jean Turner, a generous and compassionate soul whose love knew no bounds. Born on November 21, 1943, in Durant, Mississippi to Vanderbilt Roby and Ola Mae Roby Adams. She graced the world with her radiance for 81 remarkable years. She was a beacon of reliability, a loving mother, and a faithful friend who touched lives with her kindness and warmth. Mattie's legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew her.
In her early years, Mattie moved to Michigan City, Indiana, where she built a life filled with purpose and love. She married the love of her life, Wilbert Turner, on August 1, 1964, and together, they raised their sons, Wesley and David. Professionally, she was a dedicated Supervisor at the Social Security Administration until her retirement. Yet, Mattie's most cherished role was that of a spending time with her family, being a mother and grandmother, a role she embraced with all her heart. Her love for family was only rivaled by her passion for plants. Mattie had a green thumb that transformed the simplest of spaces into flourishing gardens. Her home was always filled with the scent of blooming flowers, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Mattie was not just a lover of nature but a lover of life. She was a member of the “Sugar Group,” a community of ladies with whom she savored life's sweet moments. They would often go out to eat at different eateries, an experience Mattie greatly enjoyed. Known for her impeccable fashion sense, Mattie was always dressed to the nines, her outfits a reflection of her vibrant personality. She was a long-time faithful member of Pleasant Hill MBC and served diligently on the Mother's Board.
Mother Turner was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roby and Ola Adams, her husband, Wilbert Turner, and her siblings, Roby, Mitchell, Melvin, and Major Adams.
She is survived by her two sons, Wesley Turner of Colorado Springs, CO and David Turner of Michigan City, Indiana; two grandchildren, Sydney Healy and Ryan Turner; two sister-friends, Geraldine Thomas and Cassandra Miller both of Michigan City, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mattie Turner was a gift to the world - a woman of substance whose life was a symphony of love, generosity, and compassion. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us and she will be greatly missed.
Please continue to keep the family in your prayers.
