HER STORY...

Mikailah Rena Barnes, affectionately known as “MK” and “Kailah” was born on June 5, 2000, in Gary, Indiana to Carletha Rena Barnes and Michael Damon Barnes.

Mikailah grew up in Gary, Indiana where she attended Thea Bowman Leadership Academy, Pulaski Middle School and Gary Roosevelt High School. She relocated to Michigan City, Indiana with her family in 2016 and became a member of Redeemed Fellowship Church (currently RENEW MC) under the leadership of Senior Pastor Dwayne Hurt and Executive Pastor David L. Ashley. She accepted Christ and was baptized. She enjoyed singing in the choir and on the youth praise team. She also served on the dance ministry.

Mikailah graduated from Gary Middle College on her birthday, June 5, 2019. She was a gifted hairstylist who enjoyed creating beautiful styles for her sister, Jada, other family members and friends. She loved the family’s fur babies, Kodak and Hero. She was employed in the retail and food industry securing positions at Walmart, Lowe’s Home Improvement and many other food establishments. She also worked for Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa. Mikailah enjoyed spending time with her family and shared a special bond with her late grandmother, Cora B. Earving, who she affectionately called “Granny”. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and will forever be in our hearts.

She exchanged time for eternity at the young age of 24 on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 in Michigan City, Indiana. Mikailah is preceded in death by her Grandparents: Cora B. Earving and Malty M. Earving, Sr.; Special Great Uncle and Aunt: R.T. and Carrie Ashford; Uncles: J.C. Ashford and Robert “Bobby” Barnes; Aunt, Denise LaSalle Earving; and Special Fur Baby, Sweets.

She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved and devoted Mother: Carletha Rena Barnes of Michigan City, IN; Father: Michael Damon (Linda) Barnes of Gary, IN; Paternal Grandmother: Elmarie (late Theodore “TJ”) Williams of Gary, IN; 2 Brothers: DaVeon (Jennifer) Andrew of Indianapolis, IN; Jordin D. Parker of Michigan City, IN; Loving Sister: Jada Marie Barnes of Michigan City, IN; Uncle, Malty M. Earving, Jr. (Nakia) of Cedar Lake, IN; Aunts: Theresa Wilburn of Portage, IN; Loureather (Richard) Allen of Gary, IN; Ursula Williams and Tifany Williams of Merrillville, IN; and Angela Williams of Gary, IN; Nephews: DaVeon Jr., Calvin, and JaVeon; Nieces, Rai’ Ann Hunter (“Rai Baby”) of Michigan City, IN; Jasmine and Daveah of Indianapolis, IN; and a host of other special nieces, nephews, cousins, Church family other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of life will be Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12 noon, Renew MC 7922 W Pahs Rd. Michigan City, Indiana 46360 with Pastor David Ashley to be Eulogist.

Viewing will be at 11am until time of service at the Church. A full obituary will be forthcoming.
