The Life of Michael Chambers

The Honorable Michael Chambers was born April 8th 1955 in Chicago, IL to Daisy Chambers. Michael was reared in a loving Christian home by his loving parents Matthew and Claude Bell Horton who proceeded him death along with his 5 sisters, 4 brothers, 2 sisters in law, and 1 brother in law.

Michael received his formal education in the Chicago Public School system. He attended Walter Reed Elementary School and later graduated from Chicago Vocational High School. Michael was a devoted man that held many jobs such as United Insurance Company, Rossi Pizza as a supervisor and others. He later worked most of his years at Zenith Electric Company and Rapid Display Company where he then retired.  

Michael was a loving family man that met and married his devoted wife Marilyn at Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church. To this union was born 4 children Antwain, Michael L, Michelle, and Marilyn M.

Michael was a faithful and dependable member of Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years. He was a member of the Silvia Body children choir and later moved to the Young Adult choir. Michael served many different capacities in church such as the usher board, choir director, and food depository team. For over 40 years, he served under the leadership of Rev. Henry Bracken, Rev, Andrew Coleman, Rev Robert L. Polk and his current pastor Elder Eric Thomas as their “armour bearer”. Wherever the men of God went, Michael was there to escort them. Michael was appointed to the Deacon Board by the late Rev. Coleman, however he was ordained as a deacon by his current Pastor Elder Eric Thomas. 

Michael Chambers 68, of Chicago, Illinois gained his wings on June 20, 2023.

Michael leaves to cherish his legacy, his loving wife of 41 years, 2 sons Antwain (Charita), Micahel L. (Nia), 2 daughters Michelle (Vernon), Marilyn M. (Anthony), a bonus daughter Djonae AKA “Nae Nae”. 8 grandchildren- Antwain Jr, Alijwon, A’King, Miles, Michel, Adonis, Amira, Alana. 2 great grandchildren, Armani and Milo. 4 sisters in law, Mary (George), Deloris (Dwayne), Cynitha (Timothy), Charlotte. 2 Brother in law, Robert and John Sr. Godchildren, Lawanda, Vona, Tyra, Arlo Jr, and Leatra. His longtime friends Pastor Elder Eric Thomas and Elder Christopher Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends, and the entire Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church.

A Celebration of life will be Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11am at Harvest Baptist Church 5141 S. State St. Chicago, Illinois 60609. Viewing will be 10am until time of service. Interment is pending at this time.

Michael's love, laughter, presence, and smile will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
