Mattie L. Wilkins was born October 4, 1938 in Arkansas to the late Coston Johnson and Katherine Garon Johnson. Mattie was affectionately known as Ms. Mattie.
Mattie was an only child, but her first cousins were her brothers and sisters. Mattie passion was cooking, she was one of the best. She baked and made head cheese, and hot tamales. She loved to party and dress up and did it well. Mattie also loved to travel, visiting Jamaica was her passion. Remembering you is easy Momma, we do it every day, A heartache that will never go away. Psalms: 147:3 He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.
Mattie had a retiring party at the age of 72 from Head Start where she worked for over 40 plus years. She also worked part time at the Bradley Center for over 20 years. Ms. Mattie was a valuable employee at the Bradley Center and the residents there looked forward to her and Mrs. Caludia Taylor’s cooking.
The Broken Chain- We knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you momma, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God Called You Home. You left us peaceful memories. Your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are ALWAYS at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same’ But as God calls us one by one, THE CHAIN WILL LINK AGAIN… John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection” and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?
Ms. Mattie had two girls, Tanya, and Illa that she had for her mother “Aunt Cat” LOL. She was in love with us and she didn’t miss a beat on time with everything that was needed even to her death right now no struggle. We are missing you, Momma. Psalms 34:18 The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are Crushed in the Spirit.
Ms. Mattie went home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2023, her family in heaven welcomed her home.
Ms. Mattie leaves to cherish her fond memories, two daughters: Tanya (Garry) Walton and Illa Wilkins two grandchildren: Shana webster and Chris Wilkins, seven grandchildren: Davion Jenkins, Dameria Webster, Dacorey webster, Da’Asia Webster, Donavion Webster, Jarvis Tillman, and Cairo Wilkins all of Michigan City, Indiana; three great grandchildren: Amaria Lott, and Melania Lott both of Gary, Indiana; and Bri’ell Jenkins of Michigan City, Indiana; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
