Mattie Ruth White-Banks was born March 19th, 1948 to the late Bryson and Wilma White in Cotton Plant Arkansas.
She later moved with her family to Michigan City, Indiana in 1950. In 1952 she confessed her love for Christ at an early age. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lakeland under the leadership of her Uncle, Reverend William Eckwood Sr. She later moved her membership to Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church. There she was a choir member again under the leadership of her Uncle, Reverend William Eckwood Sr. She later became Announcement Clerk under the leadership of Reverend James T. Wilkins Jr. Mattie attended Elston High School, and on June 26th, 1971 in Michigan City, Indiana she married the love of her life, John Henry Banks. Mattie was a very hard worker and after 33 years working at Anco, RETIRED!! Mattie loved crafts, making flowers and working in her yard. Was passionate about spreading the word of God and enjoyed speaking the word of God. Mattie loved listening to her gospel music, baking cakes and cooking for her family.
Mattie Ruth White-Banks departed this life on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, Indiana.
Home-going services will be 11am Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at 10am until time of service. Pastor James T. Wilkins Jr. to do Eulogy. Burial will take place immediately after service at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryson and Wilma White, two brothers Robert White and Samuel White. Three sisters Linda White, Murlo Cotton and Doris Ann White-Ross. Two brother-in-laws Ulysses Washington, David Cotton and husband John Henry Banks.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three beloved children, Tracy White and Kevin Fly of Michigan City, Indiana; Wayne White of Gundelsheim, Germany; eight grandchilden with two very special to her, Brian White and Shilynn Murry, of Michigan City, Indiana; Five great-grand children, three sisters, Carol Washington and Betty White of Michigan City, Indiana; and Anita (Alex) Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas; two brothers, Bryson White of Portage, Wisconsin; and Otis White of Detroit, Michigan; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
