Master James Earl Mitchell

James Earl Mitchell was born May 31, 1954 to the late David Mitchell Sr. and Lelia (Jones) Mitchell in Macon Mississippi.

He confessed his faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. James was a resident of Michigan City for 50 years. James graduated from Rogers High School on June 6, 1973. He attended First Baptist Church of Lakeland, Michigan City, Indiana, under the leadership of Pastor Howard K. Daniels. James worked as a truck driver for Bulk Transportation for several years. James was a kind and gentle person who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and listening to the old time blues. He was also an avid harmonica player and a person who always spoke the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not. James could carry on a conversation with just about anyone he came across because he never met a stranger.

A three hour visitation will take place Friday, November 27, 2020 from 2 to 6 pm at Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home Chapel 101 Karwick Rd. Michigan City, Indiana with the last hour to be a Celebration Of Life.

James made his transition on November 18, 2020 at Center for Hospice in Mishawaka, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David Mitchell Sr. and Leila (Jones) Mitchell, brothers, Melvin, John, Daniel, Samuel and William Mitchell, paternal grandmother, Lisa Mitchell, maternal grandparents, Henry and Leila Jones, granddaughter Arion Hart-Mitchell, sister- in law, Beryl Metcalf, and father in law, Johnny Smith.

 He is survived by his devoted spouse Mary Ann Jarrett-Mitchell of Michigan CIty, Indiana; his children, James E. (Amanda) Mitchell Jr., Richard (Jiniece) Mitchell, and James L. (Brandice) Mitchell Sr. all of Michigan City, Indiana; Ja’Lisa (Cierra) Mitchell, Indianapolis, Indiana; and Krystal (Darron) Morgan, Hampton, Virginia; god son, Jared Jeffries, Michigan City, Indiana; three sisters, Lelia Pearl (Joseph) Hampton, Flint, Michigan; Martha Reed, Detroit, Michigan; and Mary L. Daniels, Winona, Mississippi; one brother, David (Jenine) Mitchell, Michigan City, Indiana; mother-in-law, Willie V. Smith, Michigan City,  Indiana; brothers-in-law, Vernon (Doris) Metcalf, Melvin (Francis) Metcalf, Danny (Liza) Smith, and Carl Smith, all of Michigan City, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Gwen Metcalf, Darlene Taylor, and Michelle Metcalf all of Michigan City, Indiana; he also leaves to cherish his memories (11) grandchildren and (2) great-grandchildren, special cousins, Dennis Harmon, Neil (Esther) Davis, Michael, and Cornell Davis all of Michigan City, Indiana; Tony (Stephanie) Davis, Nashville,Tennessee; and Willie Getter, Indianapolis, Indiana; special friends, Rosemary Mitchell, Indianapolis, Indiana; Veronica Williams, ? Missouri; Dorice Turner ,East Chicago Indiana;  Lee, Stanley, Freddie, and Danny Tillman; Clarence Hood, Lee Holley, Elmon Harmon, Robert (Stick) Johnson, and David (Poncho) Farmer all of Michigan City, Indiana; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

James was loved by many and will forever be in our hearts. Sleep on and take your rest, although we love you, GOD loved you best.
