Her Story...

Marilyn Lynn Mitchell Cain affectionately known as Marilyn was born September 20, 1954 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Floyd (Jack Hoppy) Mitchell and Florece Henderson. She was the first born daughter of 11 children (7 brothers and 3 sisters).

Marilyn received Christ at an early age. She was a member of The Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized and sang in the choir. She received her high school diploma from Elston Senior High School of Michigan City. Marilyn and her 3 sons (Andre, Masses, and Santis) moved to Ruston, Louisiana where she continued her education graduating from Grambling State University where she received her Master's degree. She was also a member of the NAACP Lincoln Parish chapter for many years. Not only was her education important to her and for her children she continued to keep her faith in God and joined Christ Temple Baptist Church. Marilyn participated in countless activities in the community such as working on numerous campaigns, which included her favorite working for the Obama administration and volunteer work.

God called her home February 24, 2023 in the same home where she grew up. She was preceded in death by her father: Floyd Mitchell Sr., Bonus father: Robert Henderson, brothers: Bradland Mitchell, Floyd Mitchell Jr., Leslie Mitchell Sr., Anthony Mitchell Sr., Nathaniel Mitchell and her bonus sister: Robin Henderson.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories with her mother Florece Henderson, of Michigan City; 3 sons: Andre Wingo of California; Masses Cain of North Carolina; and Santis Cain of Louisiana; siblings: Ezzard (Cheryl) Mitchell of Missouri; Artillis Mitchell of Wisconsin; Harriet Mitchell of Michigan; Terri (James) McGlaston of Wisconsin; Pennelope (Joe) Turner of Indiana; and bonus siblings: Dorothy Henderson, Carl Henderson, Bill Henderson, Kenny Henderson, Titus Henderson and Jermaine (Elizabeth) Henderson,10 grandchildren, 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren along with a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

She will be greatly missed but her memory will live on.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at Redeemed Fellowship Church 7922 W Pahs Rd. Michigan City, Indiana 46360 at 11:00am with visitation at 10:00am until the time of service.
