Lucille Winston Obituary

Mother Lucille “Lucy” Winston was born on January 9, 1942 in Canton, Mississippi to the late Henry Lee and Lillie B. Thompson.

Mother Lucille Winston attended Cameron Street School and later relocated to Detroit, Michigan where she graduated from Northwestern High School in 1961. She then relocated to East Chicago, Indiana where she married the love of her life Joseph N. Winston, Sr. whom preceded her in death.

Mother Winston loved baking her famous 7-UP Cakes.

Mother Lucille Winston was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy and Michael Bridgeman as well as her great grand children, Asher Grey and Aria Rae Roberson.

Mother Lucille Winston confessed Christ at an early age. She joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Stanley Mason and was a faithful member. She was the President of the Mother’s Board and she loved her Mr. Zion Church Family.

Mother Lucille Winston was employed with St. Anthony’s Hospital (Franciscan Health) for 29 years as a Unit Clerk on 5 East.

On August 30, 2020 Mother Lucille Winston answered the Lord’s call and transitioned to her heavenly home. Mother Lucille Winston was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and brothers.

Mother Lucille Winston leaves to cherish her memories to her four children, Joseph Winston Jr. and Patricia (Michael) Beaty both of Ft Wayne, Indiana, Shenease (Darrie) Cooley ofTrotwood, Ohio, and Anita (Shannon) Roberson of Michigan City, Indiana; two stepchildren, Joann (Beuford) Smith of Melissa, Texas and Lawrence (Patina) Winston of Michigan City, Indiana; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, seven siblings, Arthur Thompson of Miller, Indiana, Ethel James of Hayward, California, Mandie Caruthers of Gary, Indiana, Emmett (Beverly) Thompson of Hitchcock, Texas, Aprilla Van Buren of Michigan City, Indiana, Wanda (Victor) Swanier of Albany, Georgia, Tim (Harriett) Bridgeman of Douglasville, Georgia and Lee Thompson of Austin, Texas; in-laws, Johnnie Ruth Prophet of Chicago, Illinois, Brenda Lewis  of Atlanta, Georgia, Connie Lewis of Chicago, Illinois, Denise Lewis, Billy-Ray Lewis, Ronnie Lewis and Nathan Lewis all of Canton, Mississippi; a very special friend, Lillian Campbell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Mt. Zion Church Family.
