OBITUARY
“Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest” (Hamlet, 5.2)
Lucas Carl Chubb-Manis embarked on a new journey into the universe on February 19, 2022. He leaves his mother, Deborah Chubb, brother, Teddy Chubb, and many loving friends to cherish their memories of his kindness, intellect, and fun-loving goofing around. He is also survived by his father, Gary Manis, Stepmother, Janice Manis, their daughters, Courtney and Hannah, Aunt and Uncle, Robin and Larry Chubb, and their children Calvin, Brian, and Emily of Chesterton.
Lucas graduated from Chesterton High School and studied Information Technology at Purdue University Northwest. He worked at several businesses as a CAD specialist and at Head Start of LaPorte County as the Director of IT, but was most well-known for his culinary pursuits as a creator of superb artisanal pizza.
Lucas was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma in 2017. He underwent many innovative treatments and received outstanding care at IU Health’s Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis. He also volunteered for a clinical trial to test experimental immunotherapy at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He endured the illness and treatments with grace and a positive hope for a cure, and left the earth peacefully, without pain.
We hope that he can finally meet his maternal grandmother, Joan, with whom he can pursue their mutual interests in philosophy, Shakespeare, and the complexities of world politics and religion. His paternal grandmother, maternal grandfather, and maternal great-aunt and uncles preceded him in death.
In memoriam donations may be made to Hoosier Environmental Council, melanoma research, and/or planting of native trees in your yard.
