HIS STORY…
On December 5, 1983, a brave soul was born. Lorenzo Valdez Tobin was born to Brenda Tobin (Tibbs) and Larry Perry Sr. Lorenzo was known affectionately as “Snoop” to his Louisiana friends and family and Lo or Zo to his Chicago friends and family.
From a young age, it was apparent that Lorenzo loved sports. He could always be found bouncing a basketball. He even played basketball for Arcadia High School. Lorenzo had many friends and cousins that were like brothers and sisters to him. They spent many hours together, swimming, fishing, laughing and enjoying each other’s company.
After high school, Lorenzo joined his cousin Marcus Fizer in Chicago who was an NBA player. There, Lorenzo studied Business Management at Robert Morris University where he also played on their basketball team. Often, he traveled with Marcus around the United States as well as internationally.
Lorenzo had many talents and interests. He studied sports management and athlete management. He was a Client Relations Specialist with Pro Source Sports and Entertainment. As a result, he met many athletes. Many of them saw him as a friend and some even saw him as family.
Lorenzo had a love for real estate. He spent countless hours working and helping one of his best friends with rehabbing houses. This led him to work for Exacta Land Surveyors. At Exacta, he was very well liked by everyone who knew him. He was respected by all.
Lorenzo discovered that he had a love of classic cars. He spent countless hours studying them, working on them and conversing with other car lovers. As much as he loved cars, he also loved boats. He tried to learn as much as possible about them. He thoroughly enjoyed being out on the water during boating season.
Lorenzo was blessed with a son, Kenyen JaShawn Tobin in 2006. He loved his son dearly and would do anything for him. He was also blessed to be a bonus dad to Brooke LeRaye Davis from his union with Lesley Jackson. Lesley and Lorenzo met in 2011 through a mutual friend. They were united in holy matrimony on June 26, 2015. They were deeply in love. They had many laughs while watching movies together, listening to music and indulging in delicious dishes. Some of his favorite foods were crawfish, watermelon, Aunt Mesa’s chili, rainbow sherbert, and a new favorite, mushroom quesadillas that Lorenzo simply called “tacos”. They both joined New Life Covenant Church on the same day even though they weren’t seated together due to it being crowded. Lesley and Lorenzo walked into the room for new members only to find each other.
Lorenzo was known as someone who would help you out when no one else would. All his friends would have to do was call him and he was on the way to them. He could figure out how to fix ANYTHING. Youtube and Google were his friends. Once he learned something, he didn’t forget it. He was a modern-day MacGyver.
Lorenzo gained his wings on July 28, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois.
A Celebration of life will be Wednesday, August 7,2024 12 noon at New Life Covenant Church 1021 W. 78th St. Chicago, Illinois 60619. Viewing will be 11am until time of service.
Lorenzo leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife: Lesley Jackson-Tobin, his mother: Brenda Tibbs (Tobin), father: Larry Perry Sr., son: Kenyen Tobin (his mom Keiva), and bonus daughter: Brooke Davis (her dad DeRay), siblings: LaShundra (Dedrick) Lyons, Latricia Tobin (Hill) Brandon (Sharon)Tobin, Steven (Keaundra) Tobin, special cousins: Charles (Shrina) Tibbs and Marcus (Moneek)Fizer, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.
Lorenzo’s love, laughter, presence, and smile will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
