Lois Starks Obituary

Lois C. Starks gained her wings on May 27, 2025. 

The life of an amazing woman Lois Carmel Starks was born on a raining day in Belizefield, Arkansas on May 5, 1956. Entering into this world with her twin Lawrence. The first set of twins born to R.D, Mary (Cook) Starks Sr. The family moved to Gary, Indiana from Steele, Missouri in 1965. A thriving industrial city where She entered into primary learning at Emerson Elementary. Later graduating from Emerson (Tornadoes) High in 1976.

After graduating she entered into the work field. At Jerry's Soul Food where she worked as a prep and a server for many years.

In 1981 she welcomed her one and only child, Tiffany Monique Starks. She was an excellent mother who spoiled her daughter, with not just material things but also love.

Lois moved to Lansing, MI in 1986 where she was employed at Mary Avenue Nursing home as well as Michigan State University. As much as she loved Michigan She missed Indiana. Moving back to Indiana in 1993, Where She worked at Mayflower Girls Home in Hammond, Indiana. As well as the Horse Shoe Casino where she retired in 2007.

Lois was a selfless sister, dedicated aunt and a remarkable grandmother. She was also an amazing cook. She will be remembered for her greens, dressing, and pies just to name a few. Her home was always open to those in need. Giving her life to Christ at an early age. Lois had a quiet, gentle spirit, a contagious smile that would light up any room she walked in. Lois had an unbreakable bond with her siblings, she Showered them with love and affection.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents: R.D. Mary (Cook) Starks; 5 brothers: Roosevelt, Ozell Sr.

(Jimmie), George (Brenda), Frank and Richard Starks; 3 sisters: Judy (Jack) Rodgers, Brenda Hayes and Viola Bell.

Lois departed this life to begin her new one in glory on May 27, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Tiffany Monique Starks; granddaughters:

Jazmine Pearl Ware and Camille D’ior Starks; 1 great-grandson Saint Amir Reed all of Indianapolis, IN. Brothers: R.D. (Diana) Starks Jr. of Georgia, Preston (Chelestine), Duke, Paul and Gregory all of Michigan, Robert of Minnesota, and her loving twin Lawrence (Jackie) of Missouri. One God brother, L'shanna D.; two sisters Nancy (Roosevelt Donaldson of Georgia and Linda (Donald) Magee of Indiana and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of life will be held June 6, 2025 11:00am, at Mt. Horeb MB Church 456 Hamlin St. Gary, Indiana 46406.

Viewing will be 10am until time of service at the Church. Interment will be private.
