Lionel Harold Ohlson, born on September 13, 1942, in Chicago, IL, was a man of honor, strength, and unwavering commitment. Known for his sharp wit, radiant smile, and captivating storytelling, Lionel left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Lionel spent the majority of his life thriving in the shipping industry. After moving to Michigan City, Indiana, 18 years ago, he found his calling at Friendship Gardens as the Payroll accountant. His dedication to his work and his team saw him lead successfully until his retirement in 2012.
Lionel Harold Ohlson 82, of Michigan City, gained his wings on May 25, 2025.
Lionel was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, Eric, his daughter, Yvonne, his daughter-in-law, Lydia, and his son-in-law, Danny. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Genice, Maya, Jessiah, Alyssa, Alyiah, Jeremiah, and Damien, and his great-grandchildren, Ezekiel and Ourania. He also leaves behind his nephew, Richard and his Ex-wife Gerry. Lionel was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Harold Ohlson, and his brother, Dale, and sister-in-law, Janice. Throughout his life, Lionel was known for his ability to connect with people on a deep level, cherishing the relationships he built with his family and friends.
A Celebration of life will be held June 4, 2025 at 2pm, Coleman & Hicks Chapel 101 S. Karwick Rd. Michigan City, Indiana. Viewing will be held 1pm until time of service at the Church. Burial will take place on Thursday, June 5, 2025 2pm (EST) at Fort Custer National Cemetery National Cemetery 15501 Dickman Rd. Augusta, Michigan 49012.
