Laurie Braxton Obituary

Laurie Ann “LaLa” Braxton age 64 was born to the union of Clarence and Esther (Kelly) Braxton on July 5, 1960, in Pontiac Michigan.

Laurie and her family moved to Michigan City, Indiana in the early 1970’s where she accepted Christ at an early age. LaLa attended Rogers high school and graduated in 1978. She was a faithful member at Christ Apostolic Church under Bishop Joe L. Bennett. She worked several jobs throughout her years of life, but her biggest joy was her last job working as a bus monitor for Michigan City Area Schools. For 17years the school children loved her dearly, they were like family to her. She formerly was a Sunday School Teacher and sang and directed the Zion Temple Choir under the leadership of Elder Roger Kelly (her uncle) until she moved her membership to Christ Apostolic Church after the passing of uncle Elder Kelly. Laura was a beautiful Christian young lady; she was always talking about scriptures telling the unsaved that they need to get to know God. She loved her church family Christ Apostolic and loved her Bishop. She was very devoted and faithful, she also loved visiting the sick and elderly, she was just a good people person and always had a smile on her face.

Laurie leaves to carry on her legacy her one and only son: David (Carla Fee)Smith, four grandchildren whom she adored: Justice, Martell, Monique, and Mila Smith and two great- grand sons: Zy’aire, and Jeremiah, one sister: Samone Braxton, two brothers: Ryan Braxton, and Anthony Hubbard, and the last of her favorite aunts: Ann Mack, two special cousins: Glenn Kelley and LK Smalls, and many special cousins and friends, including her special friends: Linda Williams, Kevin Ann Cooper, Frieda Johnson, Cynthia Ross, Bobbie Timberlake, Terri K. Fly, and Bernadette Kelly, along with the entire MCAS Bus Transportation Department.

Laurie Ann Braxton was promoted from Earth to Glory on November 6, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Esther Braxton, her brother: Tommy Lee Braxton and her grandparents: Roy and Tressie Kelly and Clarence and Annie Braxton, aunts, uncles and cousins that has gone on to glory before her.

Lala will be truly missed for all that loved her. She loved singing, watching black and white movies, enjoyed eating good food and was known for her famous banana pudding. She was good at packing up food from her family gatherings, making sure she didn’t have any leftovers. She was good at keeping everything clean.
