CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF LARRY D. MATTHEWS, JR.
Larry Darnes Matthews, Jr., was born on February 25, 1978 to Larry Matthews, Sr. and Debra A. Phillips Smith in Michigan City, Indiana.
Larry recently dedicated his life to God, believing Him to be his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ under the leadership of his Uncle Pastor Nathaniel Bradford, Mountain View Church of Flagstaff, Arizona. Larry attended Marsh Elementary School and Rogers High School currently known as Michigan City High School. As a child he loved the outdoors spending his days with friends riding bikes, playing basketball and football, many of whom have remained lifelong friends. Larry has lived in several states including Arkansas and California leading to his love of the Los Angeles Lakers and dedication to all things Kobe Bryant the Black Mamba. Larry was also a competitive bowler. However, his proudest achievement was when he received his CDL, driving cross country for Venture Logistics.
He loved his family members dearly, keeping in touch with aunts, uncles, and cousins frequently. But, most of all he loved his four children unconditionally.
Larry Matthews Jr. was sent to his eternal home on January 22, 2025, at Community North Hospital. Larry was surrounded by his mother: Debra, daughter: Desiree, and a cousin: Simba. Larry was preceded in death by his Father: Larry Matthews, Sr., Grandparents: Dennis and Dorothy Matthews, Robert S. Phillips and Dorothy Bradford, an Aunt: Zennith L. Howard, and a Uncle: Vegan Franklin.
He leaves to cherish his unforgettable memories his mother: Debra A. Phillips Smith of Fishers, IN; oldest Daughter: Desiree (Caleb) Carnes of LaPorte, IN; his Son: Kenneth Walker of Michigan City, IN; two young Daughters: Mila Marie Matthews and Madelyn Marie Matthews of Hot Springs, AR; one Brother: Jarrod E. Phillips and a Sister: Tone’a Byrd, both of Michigan City, IN; along with a host of Aunts, Uncles, and other Relatives and Friends.
He will be missed by all.
A Celebration of life will be Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11am (EST) at Pentecostal Cathedral COGIC 1025 W Western Ave. South Bend, Indiana 46601 with Pastor Nathaniel Bradford to be Eulogist.
