Her Story...
Katherine Jane Hackney, 83, of Laporte Indiana, passed away on December 26th 2024, at home, with family by her side.
Kathy was born on November 11th, 1941, in Gary Indiana to Merle and Elizabeth (Caywood) Lincoln. She was a graduate of Indiana university and worked for a time as a teacher. After she moved to Laporte in the 1970’s to raise her two daughters, she went on to work as a financial counselor at the local hospital and retired from there after 20 years of service.
Kathy was the heart of her family, loved her daughters unconditionally and was always there for them with advice, love and comfort. She was fiercely independent and unapologetically herself, a true homebody who spent countless hours tending to her flowerbeds and decorating her home with her latest treasures. She also loved reading, crafting, and in later years, became obsessed with true crime television shows. Kathy was a lifelong friend to all animals and was proud to be a “cat lady”.
She took great joy in sharing stories about all the critters she took care of.
Kathy leaves behind her daughter Kimberly Shippee (Zach Smith) ; daughter Wendy Hackney (Brandon Bauschke) ; grandchildren Justin Shippee and Hannah Shippee (Camden Glass); great-grandchildren Hudson and Ella Glass; sister Nancy Lincoln; niece Lisa Harkness and grand-nephew Brendan Harkness; and her cats Buddy, Poppy, Abby, Vincent, Mama, and Luna.
Her family takes comfort knowing that she is now free of pain and reunited with those she loved that have gone before her.
Kathy requested that there be no services and cremation has taken place.
