John Taylor Obituary

His Story...

John Victor Taylor born June 7,1934 in Lowndes County, Alabama, to Abe and Grace (Whitfield) Taylor.

Uncle Johnny was the first born of ten children. Which we affectionately call “The Taylor 10”. While in Alabama, Uncle Johnny was the school bus driver for the high school in which he attended. This may have been the trigger for his love of trucks and big cars. In 1951 after graduating from Bibb County Training School, Uncle Johnny moved to LaPorte, Indiana. His father and eight siblings soon joined him. Uncle Johnny's work career all revolved around driving semi-trucks, dump trucks and general mechanics. The love and attention he showed his cars was unmatched. It was nothing to see him outside wiping his car down or tinkering under the hood. Uncle Johnny was proud of teaching his brothers, nephews and sons on how to drop in a motor, change a transmission, or breeze through changing brake pads, among a few. Those were the times he seemed to bond the most.  Uncle Johnny had a laugh and smile that drew you in immediately. He never needed to get loud to get his point across. He just used that “mumble talk”. Of the five boys Uncle Johnny was the one with the cigar, the baseball cap sitting on top of his head and the “swag” walk (but we knew this was a broken ankle that never set correctly).

On Saturday, January 28, 2023, The First Born of the Taylor 10 received his Gold entrance pass from GOD. Uncle Johnny was preceded in death by his Parents, Paternal and Maternal grandparents and three great grandchildren.

Through his love and unions he leaves five sons and two daughters to cherish his memory: Phyllis Taylor, Grace “Daddy’s Girl” Kelly, John V. (Mel) Taylor Jr.,  Lamonte Hollie, Joseph Hollie, Antonio (Kellyn) Hollie and Steven Beaty. Uncle Johnny “John” also leaves to cherish his memories, nine siblings to carry on the teaching of “Stick Together”, Patsy “T-baby” Love, Herman “Joe” Taylor, Lorenia “Baby Kitten” Macon, Dorothy “Mother” Taylor, Luke (Marge) Taylor, Susie “Susie Dean” ( Spencer) Wright, William “Baby Brother” (Sheila) Taylor, Geraldine “Gerry” Woodard, Charles “Weiner” (Vera) Taylor; twenty-five grandchildren and a host of  great-grandchildren and great-great children to cherish his memories. Uncle Johnny will be deeply missed by a host of nieces and nephews.
