HIS STORY…
Herbert J. Hicks of Michigan City, IN passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at the age of 62.
Herbert was born on July 30, 1963, to Robert Lee Hicks Sr. and Kattie B. Tiney in Sunflower Mississippi. At the age of 3, Herbert moved to Michigan City, IN, where he spent most of his life building lasting friendships and cherished memories.
Herbert (Herb) enjoyed fishing, cooking, spending time with family and friends, playing video games and trying new restaurants. He was especially gifted with his hands and had a true talent for drawing. Herbert dedicated over 30 years to construction and roofing work, taking great pride in his craftmanship and hard work. Known for his sense of humor, Herbert was a jokester who could always keep a smile on everyone’s face. Even through difficult times and pain, he continued to laugh, joke, and bring joy to those around him. Herbert also enjoyed collecting swords and had a deep love for karate.
Herbert leaves to mourn: his mother Kattie, two daughters: Alicia Hicks and Mariah Catchings, of Michigan City, Indiana, 4 sons: Isaiah Hicks of Phoenix, Arizona, Lance Catchings, Dexter Eckwood and Tyler Eckwood of Michigan City, Indiana; one sister: LaVon Lowe, of Indianapolis, Indiana, 2 brothers: Jessie Hicks of Indianapolis Indiana, and Robert Hicks Jr. of Michigan City, Indiana. Herbert had 5 nephews and 3 nieces (Shamar, Tyrone, Amanda, Aaron, Cord, Darius, Jazmine, Susan) 11 grandkids, 12 great nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles and extended family members.
Herbert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Hicks Sr.; his grandmother, Ella Mae Tiney; his brother, Willie James Hicks, and several aunts and uncles.
