Glenda Byrd-Thomas Obituary

Glenda Byrd Thomas was  born on June 21,1962 to the union of Herbert and Johnnie Frances Byrd Sr. in Michigan City, IN.

Glenda attended Elston High School and graduated in 1981. She married her High School sweetheart Ellis Thomas Jr. to that union one daughter Rachel Thomas was born, whom they truly adored. Glenda lived for her grandbabies. She loved entertaining, cooking, being outdoors, and really loved being with her family. Glenda was a very hard working woman who loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed shopping with her daughter. You could always count on Gee-Gee to have some music playing, and having a good time. You could tell what type of mood she was in by the music she would be playing. She was employed at Lewis Bakery for fifteen years, until working at her current job which she loved at PPA Factory in Laporte, IN.

Services will be Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 12 noon, with viewing at 11am until time of service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 123 Helen St. Michigan City,IN.

Glenda is preceded I death by her mother, Johnnie Francis Goodwin-Byrd, one daughter, Shaneese Vanett Harmen, three brothers John Goodwin, Gregory Goodwin, and Jeffery A. Byrd, one sister, Mary Byrd.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband Ellis Thomas Jr, of Michigan City, IN; her father, Herbert Byrd of Michigan City, IN; one daughter Rachel Thomas of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, Ellis Thomas III and Corey Thomas both of Atlanta,GA; two grandchildren, Aubri Damarie Shaneese Merriweather and Eathan Ellis Thomas,of Indianapolis, IN; one aunt, Ernestine Byrd of Tupelo, MS; five brothers, Harland Byrd Sr.,Tony C. (Yolanda) Byrd, Brian (Rosalind) Byrd, Charlie C. Byrd, Devante Byrd all of Michigan City, IN); three sisters, Vanessa “Nett” (Robert) Paul, Sheron (Steve) Patrick, Brenda Byrd, all of Michigan City, IN, and one sister-in-law Vicki Thomas of Sacremento, California; special nephews, Cornell Branch, James Davis, Mario Harrell, Cortez Lemons, Harlan Byrd Jr. and James Duke Thomas Jr., special nieces, Tonisha Byrd, Shambriel Byrd, Robea House, Brittany Phillips, Ciara Sanders, and Asia Branch, special sons, Michael Daniel and Anttwon Merriweather, special daughters, Janae Steele and Ashanti Baldwin, special friends Jackie Bradley, Corllis Hendrix, and Angela Moore, along with a host of cousins and friends.
