The story of Gertrude Marie Johnson-Love Gertrude was born on December 6, 1947, in Tchula, Mississippi.
She was the eldest of six children born to Everlean Gordon and Amos Johnson.
Gertrude later moved to Chicago, IL, where she attended Howlind Elementary School, and later graduated from Dusable High School. After graduating high school she later became a devoted mother to her two sons Joseph Jr. and Curtis Davis. She later became employed with the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Chicago, IL in 1976, throughout that time in 1978 she became a mother to her youngest child Shantaine Johnson-Warren. Gertrude
continued with the Ritz Carlton Hotel up until 1982. In 1983, she became a black entrepreneur businesswoman and opened a Fast-Food restaurant called L&M located in the Englewood community area. She later retired in the late 90’s.
During that time Gertrude married the love of her life Michael Love (preceded her in death). Their precious 30 years together bought two families in unity. They were very dedicated and inseparable. They were sometimes known as Fred and Wilma. When you see one you see the other. The love and friendship they had in their marriage bought the unity of their children. In this unity, Michael and Gertrude have 5 children.
Gertrude was a woman with honor, respect, dignity, and love. She loved to dress to impress, plant flowers and kept a clean house that we often called Hotel Marie. Everything Gertrude did was done with class. Some will look up to her especially her children. Her family was everything to her. She would feed you, slide you a couple of dollars and tell you to go upstairs and get in the bed. She will open doors to family at any time of the day or night. She loved to travel, go to the casino with her husband, sisters, and nieces. She loved to have family and friends over to enjoy holidays and just because let’s play some cards. She had all the card parties but was not interested in playing for fun. Anyone that knew her, knew that when you picked up the phone to call her, she had the calmest voice ever. She gave out the greatest advice and always told you the truth, but she will always roll
with you either way.
Gertrude confessed her life to Christ at an early age. In the early years of her life, she was a member of Christ Open Door M.B. Church. She later became a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.
Gertrude went home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Also, her sister Earlean Stewart, and husband Michael Love.
