George E. Blue departed this life on September 28, 2023 at Aperion Care-Arbors, Michigan City, Indiana. George was born to Clarence R. Blue and Willie Lee Blue (née Bowman) on March 6, 1929 at Boonville, Indiana. George was preceded in death by his parents, as well as brothers Clarence, Paul and Ray, and sister Archie. He is survived by sisters Lillian (Wade) Allen and Clara (James) Shelton. George also leaves to celebrate his life numerous nieces and nephews, including great and great- great ones.
George was a lifelong fitness buff. Late in life he became a competitive powerlifter. He won three world championships, the last at the age of 74. He was sometimes referred to as “The Gentle Giant.” Retiring from competitive weightlifting, he trained other competitive lifters, conducted fitness classes and worked as a personal trainer.
Always young at heart and known throughout Michigan City as a snazzy dresser, George enjoyed a wide circle of friends. A huge fan of music, particularly jazz, George could often be found dancing the night away in area music clubs. George lived a long and colorful life.
In addition to his passion for fitness and music, George was a voracious reader, particularly books addressing social and political issues in the world. An adherent to the Buddhist faith, George dedicated himself to seeking justice and fair treatment for all throughout his life.
Cremation services were rendered by Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home and Crematory, Michigan City, with interment to take place at Plainview Memorial Cemetery, Boonville, Indiana.
