His Life Story...
Gary Jongkind, age 69, went home to be with Jesus on March 6, 2026. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and in the presence of the Lord.
Gary was known for his strong work ethic and the pride he took in creating with his hands. A skilled builder, he helped construct homes throughout the states of Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. He took great satisfaction in seeing the results of his craftsmanship. He also shared his knowledge and talent with his children, teaching them the value of hard work and how to create and fix things with their own hands.
Gary was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and camping, always appreciating the chance to spend time outdoors and explore new places. Whether on the road, around a campfire, or working on a project, he found happiness in simple moments, and time spent with the people he loved. One of the most special relationships in his life was with his mother, Johanna, whom he spoke with every day. Those daily conversations reflected the deep bond they shared.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Simon Jongkind, and his brother, Peter Jongkind. He is survived by his children, Angelina Jongkind and Brandon (Lita) Jongkind; grandchildren, Donovan Meeusen, Benjamin Dykhuis and Layla Jongkind; his mother, Johanna Jongkind; and sisters, Susan (Chris) Wolfe, Darlene (Tom) Owen, Debra (Mark)Bower.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on June 7th at First Church of God in LaPorte from 2pm to 4pm (CT).
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
