Sharon Diane Barnes Hardy was born on March 12, 1949, in Gary, Indiana to the late Oscar Lee Barnes and Jean Metcalf. Sharon departed life on January 4, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Sharon graduated in 1967 from Tolleston High School. After graduation Sharon went to work at Bethlehem Steel in Portage, Indiana for 31 years. She worked as a Chemical Analyst and Inspector. She was also part of the Union. While working at Bethlehem she took classes at Indiana University where she pledged Delta Sigma Theta. Once Sharon retired, she remarried and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 2001. After moving to Fort Wayne is where her educational career took off.
Sharon started taking classes at Ivy Technical Community College where she received her associate’s in business marketing with a concentration in Administration. She graduated Cum Laude (2005). She went back to school at Indiana Institute of Technology an obtained her Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership (2009), and she obtained her master’s in organizational leadership in (2010), where she was recognized in the honor society of Phi Theta Kappa. Sharon was currently working for East Allen County Schools System as a substitute teacher.
Evangelist Sharon Hardy got saved under Roger and Mother Lula Kelly on February 19,1988 at Zion Temple, COGIC in Michigan City. While living in Michigan City she was a member at Love Temple, COGIC under Pastor Torrance, also she was a member at Revival Center, COGIC under Supt. Dewitt Jackson Sr. Once she moved to Fort Wayne she attended Restoration Center Church under Pastor Michael Payton. She also visited a church in South Bend, Indiana under Bishop Carl Steen. Sharon would visit the Ethiopian Community at City View Garce Church in San Diego, CA where she would minister and pray for them.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Oscar Lee Barnes and Jean Metcalf; (2) brothers Morris “Lucky” Samuel Metcalf, and Jerry Metcalf. (1) son John Edward Hoover Jr. (1) grandson Daryn Wooten. She is survived by her son Anthony (Donna) Perry, Ellenwood, GA. (1) daughter Earlina Perry, Conyers, GA, (5) grandchildren: Tyler Hoover (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl), DeMarco Jackson, Conyers, GA, Jahvon Burch, Conyers, GA, Kenadi Austin-Perry, Decatur, GA, Alyssa Austin-Perry, Decatur, GA. (1) great-grandson (“AJ” Alonzo J Hoover), (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl) loving cousins and family & friends.
A Celebration of life will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11am, Williams Chapel COGIC 2201 Tennessee St. Gary, Indiana 46407 with Supt. Dewitt L. Jackson Sr., to be Eulogist.
Viewing will be 10am until of service. Entombment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park 3815 W. 39th Ave. Hobart, Indiana 46342. Dinner to be served afterwards at the Chateau Banquet Hall & Catering 530 West 61st Avenue Merrillville, Indiana 46410.
