Eric L. Hawkins

Eric Hawkins was born on June 9, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Oscar Hawkins Jr. and Fannie Hawkins. He peacefully departed this life on October 12, 2025, at the age of 55. 

Eric attended Broad Street High School, where he was known for his humor, confidence, and outgoing personality. From a young age, he had a way of making people laugh and lighting up any room he entered. Eric lived life on his own terms—full of laughter, adventure, and stories that those who knew him will never forget. He loved his family and friends dearly. If Eric loved you, you knew it. He would stand up for you, defend you, and make sure you were never alone. He spoke his mind and kept it real, no matter who was around. He had a giving heart and would share whatever he had, especially with the people he cared about. Eric was also known for enjoying life to the fullest. He loved to laugh, joke, and have a good time. Whether it was gathering with friends, listening to music, or sharing a drink and a story, Eric found joy in the simple things. His laughter was contagious, his humor unforgettable, and his presence impossible to ignore. Life wasn’t always easy for Eric, but he met his challenges with courage and resilience. He faced his ups and downs like a fighter, and through it all, he never lost his spirit. His journey reminds us that every soul has meaning and every life leaves behind lessons, laughter, and love. 

He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Hawkins Jr., his sister Tatsinda Scott, and his cousin Albert Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his memory of his loving Mother: Fannie Hawkins, his daughter Brittany Owens, his Brothers: Sheldrake Hawkins and Leonard Hawkins, his Sisters: Victoria Hawkins and Yazmi Hawkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever remember his laughter, his warmth, and his one-of-a-kind spirit. 

Though Eric’s earthly journey has come to an end, his memory will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His laughter will echo, his smile will be remembered, and his spirit will never fade. 

A Celebration of life will be Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11am service, Coleman & Hicks Chapel 101 S. Karwick Rd. Michigan City, Indiana 46360. Viewing will be 10am until time of service. Interment will be private.
