Ellis "June" Thomas Jr. was born March, 18 1957 in Flint, Michigan to the late Ellis Thomas Sr. and Hazel Mae Jenkins-Thomas.
Ellis graduated from Rogers High School and went on to play division 1 basketball at Lincoln College in Illinois. After college, He moved back to Michigan City and worked for the state for over 10 plus years as a FireFighter and a Correctional Officer. Ellis loved playing basketball, swimming, planting, masonry, listening to country music, and grilling. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lakeland. Ellis had the gift of gab and he loved being around people.
Ellis Thomas Jr. departed this life on October 18, 2021 at Franciscan Health Centers. He preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Byrd-Thomas, his parents Ellis Thomas Sr. and Hazel Mae Jenkins - Thomas Bridgers, His daughter Shaneece Thomas, His brother James E. Thomas, his niece Jaime Thomas-Eckwood, his grandparents, Charles Jenkins Sr., Missouri Bell, Peggy Cunningham-Thomas and James Thomas.
A Celebration of life will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1pm at New Covenant Outreach Ministries 419 Grant St. Michigan City, Indiana 46360. Viewing will be from 12 noon until time of service at the Church. Minister Woodrow Teague to do Eulogy.
Ellis leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his stepfather Samuel Bridgers, Michigan City, IN; two sons, Corey Thomas, and Ellis Thomas III both of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Rachel Thomas, Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister, Vickie Thomas-Mitchell, of Sacramento, California; six grandchildren, Kaiden Thomas-Fagg, Bloomington, Indiana; Kerriana Thomas, Atlanta, Georgia; Auberi (Memaw) Merriweather, and Ethan Ellis Thomas both of Indianapolis, Indiana; Carly Thomas, and Nalanie Thomas, both of Atlanta, Georgia; Special sons, Timothy Teague, and Michael Daniel Jr., Special Daughters, Ashanti Baldwin, and Latasha Dixon, Special friends, David "Puncho" Farmer, Mike Davis, Franklin "Trookie"Anderson, Annette Dabney, and Joann Burton, Ellis leaves behind a host of beautiful nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives whom he loved dearly.
June will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
