Elbon “Dusty” Hairston Jr. was born March 29, 1941 in Bassett, Virginia to the late Elbon (Pearl) Hairston Sr., and Plushie (James) Moore. Ruby Gray was also born of this union.
On September 2, 2020 at Franciscan Hospital, Dusty took his last breath after battling for 13 years with the many illnesses that occurred after his stroke.
Dusty was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Hairston, his son, Troy Hairston, three sisters, Lurlene Moore, Odessa Smith, and Rosemary Poole; and a brother James Moore Jr.
Dusty was a longtime employee as a custodian for Michigan City Area Schools. Dusty was also an Entrepreneur and business owner of Dustman’s Cleaning Service. He loved to work in his yard, gardening and entertaining.
Dusty leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted companion Ida B. Henderson, together they created a home where everyone was welcome. Also surviving is eight brother, Cary Moore, George Moore, Charles Moore, Dino Moore, Ernest Moore, Irvin (Ursula) Moore, Demetrius Moore and Marshall Moore; one sister, Ruby Gray; his loving children Elbon Hairston II, Teresa Garrett, Anthony Allison, Dara Montgomery, Deundray Mason, Nadia mason, Alisha Hairston-Smallwood, Gail Mackey, Diane Mackey, Stephanie Mussa; and a host of Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, niece's, nephew’s, cousins, Friends and Family.
Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Coleman & Hicks Chapel. Viewing will be 11am Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Coleman & Hicks Chapel until the time of service. The CDC guidelines are required with social distancing and facial masks are mandated to be worn.
