During his spare time, he developed a love and talent for playing the harmonica and guitar from his late Uncle John Eddie Brown. Encouraged by his wife and in-laws, on Labor Day, September 3, 1961, Edward relocated his family to Michigan City, Indiana in hopes of better employment opportunities. Edward was employed by Interstate Steele from 1961 to 1966 and Weil McClain from 1966 to his retirement after 32 years in 2000. On July 24, 1971, Edward married Annie Houston, of Michigan City, Indiana. He became the loving father of three (3) more wonderful children. After retiring, Edward started his own lawn care service and continued to work on cars until his health began to fail.

Remembering a quiet, well lived life are his eight (8) children: Donnell (Ruby) Garner, Linda Joyce (Danny) Nichols, Gloria Delores Hurt, Edward Charles (Mary) Hervey, Greylon Ricky (Sheila) Hervey, and Derick Houston all of Michigan City, Indiana, Lawrence (Loannie) Houston of Wyoming, Michigan, and Cynthia (Christopher) McKenzie of Calumet City, Illinois; his loving sister Grace (Willie) Hardy of Memphis, Tennessee; brother in-law Butler McLeod of Water Valley, Mississippi; his dear friend and caretaker Annie Hervey of Michigan City, Indiana; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephew, cousins, other relatives and friends.
