Obituary for Eddie Lee Nixon Jr.
Eddie Lee Nixon Jr., affectionately known as “Ed-Lee,” was born on October 30, 1957, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Eddie Lee Nixon Sr. and Lovie Garner Nixon.
Eddie was a servant at heart. His walk of faith began early in life at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Luster Lewis Sr. He later served faithfully at Rock of Ages Church with Rev. James Wilkins Jr., and eventually returned to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Allen Briggs Sr. Wherever he went, Eddie found purpose and joy in serving God and his community.
Music was his passion and his ministry. A gifted and soulful guitarist, he blessed countless groups with his talent, including the Friendly Six, the Flying Eagles, the Voices of Praise, and many others. His music had a way of touching souls and bringing people together in love and harmony.
To describe Eddie in three words: funny, inspirational, and unforgettable. His warm spirit and sense of humor could brighten any room. Known as a local hero and big brother in the world of quartet music, Eddie was more than just a musician—he was a teacher, mentor, and friend. He had an incredible ear for music, often learning a song simply by listening.
Beyond his love for music, Eddie had a passion for cooking and serving others. Those who knew him well will smile, remembering his signature phrase, “Don’t call me, I’ll call you.” He took joy in helping with community dinners and church ministries, always lending a hand—especially when supporting his beloved Sylvia with her church dinners and events.
On Sunday, October 19, 2025, Eddie transitioned from earth to glory. He was preceded in death by his loving Parents: Eddie Lee Nixon Sr. and Lovie Garner Nixon; Stepmother: Betty Nixon; Paternal Grandparents: Clarence and Annie Nixon; Maternal Grandparents: Leazer and Melinda Garner; four Sisters: Barbara White, Veronica Irvin, Jacqueline Hood, and Tina Perry; one Brother: Stanford “OZ” Garner and a special Friend and Fiancé: Sylvia Renee White.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory two loving Daughters: Takessy Nixon of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Angel Walker of Michigan City, Indiana; Siblings: Kevin Ann Cooper, Norma (Jerry) Anderson, Ora (Earl) Robinson, Valerie Nixon, Susie (Melvin) Williams, and Dennis “Yogi” Nixon, all of Michigan City, Indiana; Tallie Nixon of Dallas, Texas; Michael Davis of California; and Donnie (Ruby) Garner. He also leaves behind three beloved Grandchildren: Kawanda Perkins, Kanieya Nixon, Marvion Nixon, and one Great-Grandchild: Kamrion Christian. Eddie will be lovingly remembered by his special Brothers: Felix Duane Byrd and Mamon Trotter; special Sister: Vickie Simmons; special Nieces: Shenia Hervey, Lovie Michelle Steward, and Keisha Cooper; special Cousin: Robert Nixon, Kathy Nixon; and his friend: Kathleen Manuel. He will also be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Church family, and friends.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kora for his compassionate care and support.
