Dr. Melissa McGregor Obituary

Life & Legacy of Dr. Melissa “Missy” Ann McGregor

Dr. Melissa Ann McGregor was born on August 13, 1971, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Eugene McGregor Sr. and Charlene Nunn-Keller.

As a child, Melissa, affectionately known as Missy, loved to "play church," often passing the offering plate with a bright smile and an infectious joy. Her sense of humor and ability to make others laugh made her a favorite among her peers. She had a natural way with children and spent much of her time watching over Rapheal, Shanese, Constance, and Michelle, building lasting bonds.

Missy was known for her fiery personality and determination. Her brother Eugene fondly recalls her knack for cracking jokes and her unmistakable toughness—especially when she bit her lip, a sure sign not to mess with her! Her mischievous sense of humor was so well-known that she was often prohibited from sitting next to her baby brother, Chris, to prevent her from distracting him with her antics.

During her high school years, Missy met Warren (Carlos) Byrd, and together they welcomed her pride and joy, her only daughter, Tiffiany Byrd... Wherever Missy went, Tiffiany was by her side, particularly at church. Tiffiany recalls her mother’s humor as a lifesaver, saying, “I used to get out of a lot of whippings by making my mother laugh.”

Melissa received Christ and was baptized at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the late Pastor Emeritus Jones. She later joined Revival Center COGIC under the leadership of Superintendent DeWitt Jackson Sr., where her faith continued to flourish at High Praise Outreach Ministries. Over time, she became a guiding force in growing ministries, receiving her ordination as an Evangelist, and later developing into a Prophet before ultimately stepping into pastoral leadership.

Though her life was filled with challenges, Melissa held firmly to her faith. Much of her time was spent building churches and sharing her love for the Lord. She loved singing and had the honor of recording with the national gospel artist Excelsior. A faithful worshipper, Missy’s praise and joyous shouts were a testimony to her unwavering devotion to God.

Missy had a talent for cooking and took pride in her dishes, especially her greens, mustard pork chops, and spaghetti. She loved to travel and dedicated much of her life to caring for children, including mentoring the Soul Steppers. Her nieces, nephews, and countless others she cared for were like her own children. She embraced everyone with a heart full of love and gratitude, never complaining despite life’s hardships.

A graduate of Rogers High School in Michigan City, IN, Melissa went on to earn multiple degrees in Cosmetology, Medical Assisting, Early Childhood Education, and, most notably, a Doctorate in Theology—a significant accomplishment that reflected her drive and dedication. She also achieved her license as a Dental Hygienist, adding yet another feather to her cap of achievements.

Missy’s laughter was contagious, and she had a way of lighting up any room. She loved basketball and was a true sports fanatic, switching her allegiance from the Chicago Bears to the Dallas Cowboys after a rough streak for her hometown team.

Above all, Melissa’s love for the Lord was unshakable. She preached passionately, whether the message was welcomed or not, and her life served as a testament to her faith.
