Douglas Edward Sims

Douglas Edward Sims, 69, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 1, 2023. Doug was born February 26, 1954, in Chicago, IL. He was the third of three children of Irene and James Sims. Doug taught himself to draw at a young age and expressed himself artistically throughout his life. He always knew how to make those around him smile and laugh. 

As a teacher he used his passion for young minds to inspire and encourage and would often be recognized by former students while out shopping to chat and reminisce. After having children of his own he moved on to becoming a photographer, capturing many weddings, events, and family portraits, continuing to serve his community with his creative talents. He served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church.  

Doug is survived by his sister Francina, his former wife Jan, and their children Austin and Andrew. He will be missed dearly each day. His family is holding a memorial service at Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home from 1pm-3pm on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
