Doris Metcalf

Reflections of Life!!!

Doris Metcalf, affectionately known as “Ms. Walmart”, was born on October 13, 1955 in Michigan City, IN to the late Mandy Smalley and Charles Arnold.
 

Doris accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age. She attended Rogers High School and was a former Walmart employee for over 23 years. Doris loved to shop, put together puzzles, was an avid card player, and most of all she loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. Affectionately known as, “Queen of Calumet Street”, Doris looked out for everyone and never met a stranger. She was known to make the best jiffy cornbread, chicken & dumplings, greens, and oxtail stew!
 

Saturday, August 13, 2022, Doris peacefully departed this life in her sleep to be with her Lord and Savior, at home surrounded by her family. 
Doris was preceded in death by: both of her parents Mandy Smalley & Charles Arnold, maternal & paternal grandparents and three brothers: David “Puncho” Smith, Barry Arnold, and Jeffrey Ellis. Additionally a special cousin, Clarice (Jackie) Billops.
 

She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband: Vernon “Rickey” L. Metcalf, two daughters: Donnesia Garrett and Donica (Carlos) Young Sr., all of Michigan City, IN; Two sons:  Billy (Emmone) Garrett of Indianapolis, IN; and Demetrius Garrett of Sioux Fall, SD; four sisters:  Irma Mason of Little Elm, TX, Charlene (Clifton) Spicer of Milwaukee, WI; Cassandra Collins of Fort Dodge, IA; Jac’Ques (Ken) Okonkwaasika of Michigan City, IN; two brothers: Cary “KK” Arnold of Detroit, MI; and Mario (Linda Kay) Ellis of Laporte, IN. 12 grandchildren: Dontarius Garrett, Jasmine Garrett, Kieara Williams, Cariana Young, Carlos Young Jr., Demetrius Garrett Jr., Adrianna Woodruff, Brandi Mitchell, Davaris Garrett, Caia Young, Kameron Garrett, and Amiyah Garrett. Six special grandchildren, five great-grandchildren: A’Naria Williams, Dominick Jones, De’Sire Garrett, Kyliena Williams, and Élayah Young. Special son:  Laishun Carr along with a host of special uncles, aunts, children, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Doris, our “Madea” of the family, is leaving us with lots of laughter and love.
 

 A Celebration of life will be Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 11AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 123 Helen St. Michigan City, Indiana 46360 with Rev. Stanley Mason to do the Eulogy. Viewing will begin at 10AM until the time of service at the Church. Burial to follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens 5700 W US Hwy 20 Michigan City, IN 46360.      
 

This service will be live-streamed via Coleman & Hicks website!!! Masks are required for service!!!
