His Story...
Donald V. Thompson was born on January 20, 1938 in Gary, Indiana a to Jewell Thompson and Louise Pickett Thompson.
Donald grew up in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from Froebel High School. He attended St. Augustine college where he exceled in sports. After which enlisted in the US. Army. He later moved to Michigan City, where he became a teacher for physical education and a football coach at Krueger Jr. High School. Donald enjoyed football, track, golf and most sports. In his spare time, he listened to jazz music and loved to read and was a great storyteller.
Donald V. Thompson 86, gained his wings on August 26, 2024 at Life Care Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, 1 sister: Deloris Davis, 2 brothers: Ray Thompson, Ricky Thompson, his wife: Mary Alice “Mae” Thompson, and a host of other relatives that awaited his arrival.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his daughter: Trisha Thompson, a special daughter: Phaedra Greer, 1 stepson: David (Monica) Payne, 1 sister: Sherrie Thompson, stepsisters: Vickie Byrd, Valerie Byrd, 2 grandsons: Travis Thompson and Tristan Thompson, a special grandson: Nicholas Greer, 4 great-grandchildren: Audriana, Kayden, Ava, and Malakai, a special great- grand daughter: Isabella Greer, along with aq host of other relatives and friends.
Donald's love, laughter, presence, and smile will be missed by all that knew him.
A private viewing will be held and burial to follow at Abraham National Cemtery in Elmwood, Illinois. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
