On a beautiful day in Gary, Indiana a “Queen” was born on October 9, 1956 to Ruth and Leon Coleman Jr., Ms. Deone Darcell Coleman. She was an “extraordinary” only child, a gift from Heaven.

Deone accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Catholic Schools and graduated from Michigan City Rogers in 1976. At the age of 21 she married Billy Garrett, to this union four children were born Rashauda, Nickolaus, Nolan and Noelle. Deone worked several jobs and obtained many certifications throughout her careers, a licensed cosmetologist, daycare provider, Blue Chip Casino, and also worked in retail for many years. Her greatest joy was working alongside both her loving parents at Coleman and Hicks Funeral Home.  She loved having family time with her children and grandchildren. Deone was big on perfume and jewelry, a true fashionista.

She was preceded in death by her parents the late “Great” Ruth and Leon Coleman Jr., maternal grandparents, Bob and Grace Martin, paternal grandparents, Leon Coleman Sr., Thelma Fitzgerald, Ella Powell-Coleman, Bernice Keys-Coleman, special brother James Pickering, nephew Micah Garrett, special childhood friend Allen White.

Deone joined her heavenly father in heaven on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Franciscan Health Center.

She leaves to cherish her everlasting memories, her adoring children Rashauda, Nickolaus, Nolan and Noelle Garrett; sixteen grandchildren, Sierra, Summyia, Vincent, Colin, Dion, Amari, Jakire, Giovanni, Eric, Nariah, Naylani, Nalayah, Jaliyah, N’yaire, Diamond, and Derrell; special mother, Lorenza Brown- Porter; special daughters, Catrina Rose, Tiffany Winn, Shondra Fields, Louise Campbell, Sangria Spencer; special sisters, Mae Seawood, Lorraine East, Carolyn East, Elizabeth Conley ,Victoria Dixon, Linda Willaims, Belicia Hicks, Endia McKinney; special aunts, Lethena (Eugene) Henley, Lynicia (Patrick) Gransberry; special nieces, Latoya Jackson, Toni Leeks, Shalonda Garrett, special childhood friends, Lydia Calloway, Lynda Dixon, Carmen Cain- McCoy, Gail-Cain-Simmons; special friends, Yolanda Mosby, Valerie Day –Butcher; and a lifelong special friend, Billy “Fisherman Bill” Garrett, along with a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.
