HIS LEGACY...
Demond Eugene Watt, age 54, passed away on March 10, 2026. He was born on February 5, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois, to Theresa Watt and Donald Watt. Demond was preceded in death by his beloved baby boy, Jashaun Watt and beloved granddaughter Gianna Watt.
Demond was raised in the Altgeld Gardens community in Chicago, where he built lifelong friendships and memories. He graduated with his high school diploma from Carver High School and later attended Rock Valley Junior College, where he played basketball. Although he did not finish college, he made the selfless decision to leave school in order to work and provide for his children, always placing family first. Some people enter a room. And then there are the rare souls who become the room. Demond was one of those souls. He wasn’t just the life of the party, he was the energy that connected everyone together. Charismatic, strategic, complex, funny, and thoughtful, Demond was a man who thought outside the box and then flipped it over just to see what else was inside.
He lived big. Everything about him was big, his personality, his laughter, his generosity, and his presence. Adventurous, clever, flirtatious, and deeply caring, Demond had a way of making people feel seen and included. He was a storyteller like no other, always bringing laughter, wisdom, and unforgettable moments wherever he went.
And that smile… crooked, mischievous, and genuine. The kind of smile that made you feel like he already had a plan and was three steps ahead of everyone else. He carried himself with a confidence that no one could take from him. Demond believed in asking for forgiveness, not permission, and he walked through life boldly and unapologetically.
Wherever he went, he didn’t wait to be invited, he arrived with purpose. Sometimes to make things right, sometimes to shake the table and move the room. And move the room he did.
But more than anything, Demond loved hard. He was incredibly proud of his children, protective of them, and that love shined through them every day. If he cared about you, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for you. He was a protector of his people and someone who believed deeply in loyalty and connection.
Demond was also a curious and intelligent observer of people. He understood how to engage others and draw them in with his charm, humor, and authenticity. Like the sun, he had a way of warming people, brightening their day, and shifting the mood of any room he entered. His life felt like a movie at times powerful, layered, real, and unforgettable. But above all, it was his story. Loud. Brilliant. Unpredictable. Filled with laughter, hustle, heart, and memories that will never fade.
Demond leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Theresa Watt and Donald Watt (Toni Watt); his brothers, Darnell Cunningham (Renee Cunningham) and Jabari Morris (Ada Gary); his sister, Jimika Ward (Lonte Ward); stepsister, Trina Honaker(Russell); former wife, Melanie Watt; his sons, Demond Watt Jr. (Genae Watt), Joshua Watt, and Jaquan Watt; his daughters, Shaukeyla Watt and Nautica Watt; bonus kids, Sequoia Anderson, Charlie Williams, Gerald Williams, and Lateefha Holmes, grandkids, Ma’Niah Tyler, Mariah Tyler, Matthew Tyler Jr, Jakael McGee, Zion McGee, Kyrie Watt; eight bonus grandchildren; grandmother: Eldena Winslow, Special friends: Cydnee Harris, Sean Howell, and Quentin Benson; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever carry his spirit with them.
Demond Watt’s presence was unforgettable, and his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
