Obituary

Debra Ann Allen (Debbie) was born on August 19, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to Curdell Allen Sr. and Blanche Cherry Stewart. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, Blanche Cherry Allen, and father, Curdell Allen, Sr., and siblings Renee’ and Betty Mackey.

Debbie accepted Christ in her early adult years and united with New Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, in Chicago, Illinois.  She later joined Union Missionary Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and spent time enjoying her new church family. Debbie was immediately embraced by the Gospel Angels’ Sunday School class.

Debbie grew up on the Southside of Chicago and attended Chicago Public Schools. In 1979, she graduated from John Marshall Harlan High School and went on to study Early Childhood Education at Northern Illinois University in De Kalb, Illinois. Debbie spent her early adult years working in retail. She enjoyed the camaraderie formed with her co-workers/girlfriends and the public, in addition to, the independence of earning her own money. Later, Debbie went to work for Illinois Bell and Ameritech where she was a Customer Service Representative for 20 years. 

Debbie faced life’s challenges with a positive attitude and a motivating spirit. Later, Debbie relocated to Arkansas with her Father where she enjoyed reading magazines and books, spending time shopping, and visiting with family. Debbie enjoyed reading her bible and devotional books which strengthened her walk with Christ. Debbie loved dancing, listening to music, and dressing up for special occasions with her sister Sheryl. Debbie enjoyed her independence and family-oriented environment at the Lakewood Residential Independent Care Facility in Hot Springs Arkansas.

Debbie transitioned on September 6, 2023, in Hot Springs, AR with her loving family by her side. She leaves to cherish her memory: one brother Curdell Allen, Jr. (Angela) McCalla, AL; three sisters Pamela Julun (Ronald) Houston, TX; Sheryl Denise Allen, Hot Springs Village, AR and Carol Allen, Dolton, IL; aunts Arbra Ackee and Diane Taylor, Little Rock, AR and uncle Albert Stewart, Sr., Lynwood, IL; her “Village”: Joan Edwards, Shirley Simmons, Sharran Webb, and the late Eva Whaley; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  

The visitation will be one hour before the service, Funeral Service will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church 219 Gulpha Street Hot Springs, AR 71901. After the service, she will be entrusted to Coleman & Hicks Funeral Home and the Services will be Friday, September 22, 2023, from 10:00 am till 1:00 pm at Precious Memories Funeral Home, 7605 S. Halsted St.,Chicago, IL 60620 and laid to rest after the service at Lincoln Cemetery 12300 S. Kedzie Ave Chicago IL 60655.
