David Lipscomb Obituary

Following a valiant fight with cancer, David Randall Lipscomb, affectionately known as Jabbo, passed away on July 18th, 2024, at his home in Kingsford Heights, Indiana. He was 70 years old.

Jabbo was the youngest son of June and Pat Lipscomb, born on March 4th, 1954. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights where he was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Patrick Reed in 2013.

David was a graduate of LaPorte High School’s class of 1972. He became a proud United States Marine, enlisting in the Marine Corp in 1975 until 1979. While enlisted, he was trained as a diesel mechanic. After returning home David was employed at several local factories before finding his passion for auto detailing. He took great pride in making a car look good! He spent most of his career working for Jackson’s Car Wash and later LaPorte Chrysler before retiring.

In the true fashion of a kid from Dodge, Jabbo was an avid baseball/softball player. Starting out as bat boy for his dad and the Kingsford Heights Blue Jays to playing for teams in LaPorte and Michigan City such as Al & Mary’s, the B & W Stars, and the Eastside Players.

David had an infectious personality, quick wit, and loved to tell a good joke or funny story. He loved listening to music, cheering on the Dodgers and Steelers and watching shoot-em ups.

He was welcomed into eternity by his dear mother: Mattie Lipscomb and his grandson: LaReal Bonds Jr.

He is survived by his father: James Lipscomb of Kingsford Heights; his daughters: Felicia (Gentry) and Jasmine (Jeff) Lipscomb all of Michigan City, IN; he will be lovingly remembered by Joan Davis, his devoted partner of fifteen years, grandchildren: Laila, Jahlil, Autumn, Kaydance, Amiyah, Marsean, and Ka’Mani Maholmes, and one great- grandson: LaReal Bonds III all of Michigan City, IN; siblings: Evelyn (David) Stevens of Michigan City, IN; Leonard Lipscomb and Pamela Parkes both of Kingsford Heights, IN; and Tracy (Sean) Williams of Chesapeake, VA; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of life will be Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 12 noon, First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights 2101 Chatfield Rd. Kingsford Heights, Indiana 46346 with Pastor James E. Lane Jr., to be Eulogist. Viewing will be 11am until time of service at the Church. Interment will be private.

He will be sorely missed by his buddies: Bill Rumley, Tommy Thomas, Chris Anderson and his close cousin Duke Brooks.

Isaiah 41:10- Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
