Daryl Lionel Crockett was born to James and Viola Crockett on February 10, 1953.
Daryl was a life-long resident of Michigan City, Indiana. In his early adult years, he worked for Horizon Bank (formally First Merchants National Bank). He climbed the corporate ladder at Horizon Bank and became Vice-President, Community Development and CRA Officer. He was recognized by the City of Michigan City on November 8, 2011, by proclaiming that day “Daryl Crockett Day of Appreciation” for his exemplary service and leadership over a span of 50 years in promoting housing projects for the city.
During that time, he also provided the vocals for a local R&B band. Daryl was quite a speedster when he played in the Michigan City Baseball League. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Michigan City, Michigan City Chamber Education Division, and Michigan City Area Schools Strategic Planning Team. He was a Board Member of the Michigan City Boys and Girls Club, Michigan City Housing Development Corporation, the Michigan City Redevelopment Authority, and the Unity Foundation of LaPorte County. Upon his retirement, he loved watching all sports, especially his beloved Chicago Bears and Bulls. He played golf and joined his friends to play Bid Whist. He enjoyed traveling with Hattie, Bennie and Theresa Edwards, and friends.
Daryl Crockett passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025 at home with his loved ones by his side. He was preceded in death by his Mother: Viola Crockett, Father: James Crockett, Maternal and Paternal Grandparents, and a Grand-daughter: Misa Lynn Hamilton along with other relatives that went before him.
He is survived by his Soul Mate: Hattie Veasey, his three daughters: Jennifer (Malcolm) Hamilton of Franklin, TN; Vanessa (Jackie) Shropshire, of Chicago, IL; and Mia Dudeck; his grandchildren: Malcolm Hamilton II, Jackson Thomas and Cameron Crockett Shropshire, and two stepchildren: Taronza Akridge of South Bend, IN; and Seenaca Veasey of Michigan City, IN; He leaves behind a host of family members and friends to cherish his memories.
A Celebration of life will be at Zion Hill Location 2 at 717 E. 10th St. Michigan City, Indiana (FORMER PLEASANT HILL MBC) Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 3 to 5pm,
with family hour from (3-4) Public hour from (4to 5)pm with Pastor James E. Lane Jr., to officiate.
