Daniel Hagen Obituary

Daniel Malcolm Hagen was born on June 8, 1946 to George and Perlina Hagen, in Michigan City, Indiana. His love of God began at an early age, having been raised in a Christian home and taught the Lord’s word by his dearly beloved mother, Sister Perlina Johnson.

A graduate from Elston Senior High School in 1966, Daniel went on to attend Davenport Business College in Davenport, Iowa. He loved singing and he participated in youth choirs in high school and was a member of the Youth Choir at Mount Zion Baptist church where he was baptized. Daniel was also a member of The Gospel Tones Group.

Daniel was a family man, who loved life and enjoyed people. He married Barbara Collier in the late 1970’s and to this union a daughter, Darla was born. Daniel’s favorite time of the year was any holiday and reason for family to gather. He was an excellent cook and loved to entertain his family. He organized family gatherings and celebrations which were always led in thoughtful, enthusiastic prayer and thanksgiving to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Daniel had a passion for life. He loved fishing with family and friends around Michigan City and the St Joseph Michigan areas. He was a listening ear to family and friends and available for consult and counsel with anyone who needed him.

Daniel relocated to Seattle, Washington and lived there for several years. However, was led by the Lord to return home in 2011 to assist in the care of his dearly beloved mother whose health was failing. A dedicated and loving son, Daniel was committed to providing excellent care for his mother. His Mother made her transition to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, April 14, 2017, shortly after that, Daniel suffered a debilitating stroke. He lived his remaining days with courage and strength of character until the Lord called him home on October 16, 2020.

Daniel departed this life on October 16, 2020 at Porter Regional Hospital. Preceding him in death, Stepfather Viceal Johnson and his Mother Perlina Johnson.

Daniel is survived by his brother Dr. Joseph Hagen who was faithful in overseeing his care, sister Norma Jackson, one daughter, Darla Tucker, one son, Frederick Williams and two grandchildren,Dhimani Tucker, Alani Tucker, his niece, Deboraha Evans who was integral in his care and his last surviving aunt, Verneice Harris with whom he shared a special bond.
